So this means that they have decided upon their definite admitted and rejected applicants and I was not one of them; and now they are waiting to see whether one of their admitted applicants declines their offer or not to then put me in his/her place. Right? What other explanations/possibilities does this being waitlisted term have? Since this school has first rank in the program I've applied I guess that being waitlisted is pretty much the same as being rejected. Right? I already have an offer from another program. Am I safe to forget all about this dream school of mine and apply for visa with the one I've already got admitted in? Thank you all for your answers

I want to send a similar email as yours. I have been offered a one-third RA along with my admission letter and I want to bargain for a raise to a one-half assistantship. However, I'm not sure whether to ask directly from my future to be adviser or to firstly check with the graduate office. Is it even likely that they change their issued offer to the advantage of an applicant? btw, have you got any news back?

Also, could you specify what a typical funding offer for a PhD position nowadays is? I want to know whether my offer is below the average or above that? With this offer, my pocket earnings would be almost 800$ per month that should cover all of my expenses except for the matriculation tuition and fees.

I just emailed a professor asking when they will start announcing offers? And, he responded that you are currently ranked high on our waiting list; we will let you know as soon as we can. Does this mean that I'm waitlisted or just that my application is under review and I am in line to be notified?

Thanks for your reply. So, in that respect it doesn't matter for which semester I applied and whether the funding is 1/2 or 1/3 time. But, I'm worried that my offer is not going to even nearly cover the expenses. Should I ask for an increase? Is there a chance they accept my petition? Sould I email my adviser or the graduate office first? I want to ask for a 1/2 time assistantship.

I've been offered a PhD position with a 1/3 time RA and monthly stipend of ~1100 $ and a reduced tuition and fees of 843 $ per semester. Since I had applied for the summer 2010, my offer says that this appointment is for summer 2010, fall 2010, and spring 2011. Now, I am guessing that if I had applied for the fall entry instead of summer then I would have to pay to register for only two semesters i.e. fall 2010 and spring 2011 and my stipend would have been the same 12 months salary? Am I right or that I would have needed to also register for the summer 2011 in order to receive that payment during summer time? I am considering to ask for an increase in my offer because this is my top choice program and I have verrry little time to apply for vise and all that.

Amazing!! My ECE status just changed back into "Application is under review". What? Why? How? I can't believe this.

My ECE decision status reads as "Decision Made" while the other application status shows that "no decision has been made". I want to know what does this mean? It's almost a week since I've got that Decision Made in my status. I think they both email and post offers for successful applicants. And, I saw just one post in the result page that was rejected via postal service. So, maybe those who don't get an email are going to be dumped by the mail. I'm not sure though.

Same here. When I first called them I was supposed to receive a reply on early February!! btw, what does your status show, on both ECE decision and the application status page?

Anyone else heard from ECE, especially PhD program, yet?

I have a professor agreed to be my future adviser; however, I've not heard a word from the department since. Last Friday, my status changed into "decision made" but I've not been informed in any way. So, I do not know what my fate is. Now, I'm thinking of sending an email to the professor in question, explaining the situation and then simply asking him if he could inquire about my case. Is this appropriate? I don't want to seem too pushy.

I checked with the department and as it turns out they are just too busy to update the SGS system. They advised me to only check the ECE page and as long as it shows "application received" it is just fine.

Do people admitted to this program, especially those not residing in the US, get their emails a while after their status changes or simultaneously so? Is this their usual trend to inform the applicants days after the decision has been made? And, to those who haven't yet heard from this school: Have you recently checked your status? I am anxiously waiting to hear your thoughts on this.

I don't need to say what emotional estates I was going through those first couple of hours until I calmed myself down into believing that: "well, there is no news now so go back to the waiting stage." I just checked my application status on SGS website and it shows "Documents Pending" !!! Before, I was continuously checking the ECE status page but not the SGS! The ECE shows: "your application has been received." I have already sent all the supporting documents way before the deadline. I just emailed the department, but right now I am freaked out. What can be wrong? Is it that they have received but haven't still updated the status? Has somebody had a similar experienc?

Looking back to our correspondence via phone and email, I think I couldn't have got more of a positive response. He encouraged me to apply for the earlier term, i.e. summer entry, so that we can start the work sooner. He also told me that he is going to provide the funding himself. BUT, yes, some admissions were out on early February and for those Americans who had applied for the fall entry. I don't know whether any international applicant applying for the summer has also received any response or not. It is probable that this school would announce summer and fall admissions together and later responses for international people because the application period of both semesters is almost the same in this school !!! What remains highly suspected is the fact that I've got less than two and a half month till the beginning of the semester and still no answer

The very thought that has been banging to my head for over a month now is that whether my supporting professor's recommendation to the graduate office to admit me is going to actually win me an admission. I've got couple of very positive replies from the professor that it does and that instead of worrying I should focus on studying his research and be ready to apply for visa. But equally conclusive is the fact that I have not yet received any decision from their graduate office. I have my application status on "under review" for over a month. So, my question is what are they doing reviewing my application if it is already chosen by a professor there?Shouldn't we receive a response shortly after we get an informal acceptance from a professor? Does this mean that the professor in question has changed his mind behind my back? What else could have gone wrong with my application? Has anybody had a similar experience?

I've called the graduate office the other day. The lady picking up first took my information and put me on hold for good several minutes. Then she told me that she's spoken with another lady in charge of the process and is unable to give me any information yet. She advised me to wait and that I'll be receiving my result early in the February. Yesterday I've emailed the prof, but no answer yet. The tone of his past emails and phone call sounded extremely promising back then; but, now I've moved from confidence to mortal fear . Renting a place is the last thing I can be thinking of right now, I wish to god that was my concern though. Thank you anyway. Pray for my admission and I promise I'll consider your kind offer .
