  1. Hello world! So I am having a hard time deciding which program to attend for my PhD. I applied to various different labs and these two are my top choices: 1) PhD in Organic Chemistry at the Uni. of South Fla. with a great mentor I have previously taken classes with. I am very interested in the research! However the city I would be living in is not great and USF is not a very well known school, although we do top the Research Patents Produced per year charts! 2) PhD in Cell and Molecular Bio at Northeastern Uni. in a great lab again, with a not so familiar mentor. However Boston would be where I am living which is spectacular! Northeastern is a great uni as well What should I do? I really like my potential mentor here but I would absolutely love living in Boston! What do you think is my better option career-wise? I feel like a PhD in Orgo would be phenomenal, career-wise. Thank you!
  2. Yupp I plan on relaxing a bit and volunteering as much as possible. I doubt I will be able to find an OPT job as so many Med School fails have high GPAs and what not so I don't think I can compete But hopefully doing some meaningful things! Thank you!
  3. Hello, I am an international student with US BS in Microbio and want to pirsue a PhD here. I was wondering how much worse my chances are if I wait a year vs. applying right after undergrad, if at all? Thanks
  4. Hello, I really enjoy immunology/biochem related research and would like to pursue a PhD in this area. Is it possible to get accepted into a decent program as an international student with US Micro BS and Chem minor? I feel like most programs look for things like lots of math and P Chem background but I dont have any of that.( Just some extra Chem classes for minor) I have a decent gpa 3.7 and hope for the best with the GRE. I have 2 years research in proteomics lab. What do you think?

    NYU Sackler

Thank you both! I am honestly ignoring the fact that I'm not US citizen due to the fact that I am from a tiny country and see it as an advantage to boost their diversity profile(or whatever). Should I be thinking like this tho? I mean they are private institutions and I went to a US State Uni so I feel fine. One more question tho, what do you mean by advanced electives? If you mean things like Physical Chemistry or lots of Math I don't have that :s I do have upper level Immunology, Biochem, Virology and other courses of the more bio-sort though.

    NYU Sackler

Hey guys! So glad I found this thread! What do you think my chances are of getting into Cornell and NYU Sackler with these to boost my application: 2 years of research in proteomics and neurobio labs, each for about a year, GRE 320, GRE Biochem 670, GPA 3.71 I am worried about my GPA mostly :/ I have a good relationship with most my mentors so I know I will have good rec. letters Also what kind of GPAs / GRE scores did you guys have? I would appreciate all input! Thanks so much!
