  1. It appears there have been several inaccurate statements made about the Columbia SIPA MPA program - man this place is starting to feel like autoadmit where people just keep spewing out whatever information they have heard elsewhere regardless of its truth. The MIA and MPA programs each have an acceptance rate of 30% according to SIPA itself. USNews rankings are very outdated (2004) and the MPA program has been growing. The rankings are ignored by most in the field because they are unscientific and weigh solely the views of deans in the public policy schools - this ultimately favors the biggest schools that have the most alumni out there at other universities serving in administrative roles and voting for their alma mater. This is exactly the case with Maxwell, a dean told me firsthand. To claim that he MPA program at. SIPA is weak based on this ranking is thoughtless. The faculty are almost identical for the MIA and MPA programs and the students take most classes together. Such faculty are tops for both IR and PA including a nobel laureate and other distinguished professors. Just take a look at the faculty page. Columbia has a solid political science department which also adds to the quality of the MPA program. Lastly, the MPAs have a higher employment rate than the MIAs. So let's get the facts straight, to call the MIA program the gold standard and the MPA program far weaker is just not true by both statistics and common knowledge among those in the field.
  2. Apparently the new USNews rankings are coming out March 29. Anyone know if they will include an updated ranking for public affairs programs? The one they have been running in the last few annual issues is way outdated (2004). With so many of these programs growing, I bet several rankings would change.
  3. Curious what your sources areregarding SIPA career services, if you don't mind. From everything I've learned, MPA grads from SIPA do better getting jobs than the MIA grads.
  4. No takers? Oh well, guess we'll find out tomorrow... If you've been nervous all weekend, you haven't been the only one.
  5. xnormajeanx, would you mind pasting a link to the site that detailed deloitte recruiting events on public policy campuses? Thanks!
  6. the geographical issues have to do more with proximity to girlfriend in upstate ny than career prospects, but thanks
  7. According to some on autoadmit, more notifications are coming Monday for MPPs. Any idea if all the acceptances have been sent out already? I can't find many accounts in old postings of people hearing of acceptances after the first day they were sent out.
  8. For someone potentially interested in going into public sector consulting or working as an aide on the hill... Georgetown PPI MPP (two years) Columbia SIPA MPA (two years) Syracuse Maxwell JD/MPA (three years) Also go into, but am not as strongly considering b/c of geographical issues... UChicago Harris MPP CMU Heinz MSPPM Waiting on... KSG Any insights on the career services situations at the above schools (first 3 in particular) would be most appreciated. Thanks!
  9. According to autoadmit more notifications are coming on Monday. Who knows if they are actually acceptances or just a batch of waitlists/rejections. Since no rejections/waitlists have gone out yet of course they are not going to say that no more acceptances are coming. I'm skeptical, hope I'm wrong!
