  1. Do you guys think JHU may be done? There are three acceptances and perhaps they are not accepting many people this year. And not everyone is on Gradcafe. I know it is not a fun thought...
  2. My stats are actually not nearly as impressive as yours aspiringtheorist. I have a UGPA of 3.77 from a top-30 liberal arts college(one of my majors was English, a rather risky choice for someone whose native language is not English!) GRE is 710V 740Q 5.5W. No publications and no conference experience. I sent in a chapter of my thesis, which my advisers felt very strongly about. I am fluent in two languages other than English and am learning a third. The only reason I can think of for getting in is my SOP, which I wrote specifically for Chicago (all 2433 words of it--they said up to 2500 is OK).
  3. I say don't count yourself out for NW just yet, but be prepared for a long wait. It is likely that you guys are on a de-facto waiting list. That is what happened to me last year. The process dragged on until mid-April and then I was rejected. (That might be why they notified me so early this year!) But I remember that one or two people got in early April last year. They probably wait to see how the accepted students respond.
  4. Congrats theorygirl!!!
  5. Yesterday. But I was asleep--there is a lot of time difference between Chicago and where I live. And then I went to work. (The company I work for is draconian enough to block Gmail...) So I just found out
  6. In at Chicago!!!! I really didn't see this one coming... This is was my toughest-to-get-in choice. I striked out last year. The world of Ph.D. admissions works in mysterious ways.
  7. What about Chicago, Plisar? Do you think they will be notifying this week?
  8. hey pro, are you a theorist? I'm still wondering if the other theorist hopefuls at NW should give up hope.
  9. Thank you jackassjim! I hope they really do because I will probably accept their offer! It is the only school I heard from so far but I really like the department and it is an excellent fit for me.
  10. Northwestern surprised me and offered to pay for my international flight...and I am not from Canada or Central America. I guess they do have a big endowment!
  11. Congratulations guvmentkid and mormegil! guvmentkid, hope to see you in Evanston:)
  12. Congrats to all the UVA admits! Such a high number of admitted people on this forum shows what a great concentration of future poli sci rock stars we have here at Gradcafe. And yes I am having a particularly optimistic day:)
  13. According to the results page, there is another NW admit. And it looks like it is an international student with a US degree, like myself. Congratulations, and pm me when you get a chance:)
  14. Thank you!!! I think you are absolutely right. I am sure the results will be trickling in next week.
  15. Well, I got an e-mail yesterday from a faculty member I had been in touch with previously. And today I got the official letter. I actually haven't checked my status page yet. The official letter came via e-mail from Ms. Riehl-Mitchell.
  16. Yes, 5 years of funding (tuition plus $20000, summer funding for three years, and health insurance). I am really happy with it:)
  17. I just posted the Northwestern acceptance, now that I received the official letter, I think it's OK. I don't think the process is finished at all. In fact, my letter is dated February 12th!
  18. Oh I still remember my Yale rejection from last year. I think it was February 6th or 7th. It was my first rejection, and boy did it hurt. So I don't think you guys wanna hear from Yale just yet.
  19. I am perfectly willing to tell anyone who PMs me. I just don't want it to be on the website, in case I am the only one who knows yet, and in case adcoms check this site...I know I am paranoid:)
  20. I don't think you should worry about UVA. It may be that the person who got admitted got an unofficial, off-the-record acceptance from a faculty contact. Which is what happened to me today (not for UVA, I swear). I haven't posted it on the results page because I don't want to worry those who are still waiting. Or it may be that the UVA guy/gal is screwing with us... I have been lurking this year, but I did post a few times last year. This is my second cycle and it is off to a great start. So, second cyclers ( I just made that up), keep your chin up--miracles happen:)
  21. I called them so many times but they don't pick up their phone. Classic. They probably notified the few people they'll fund.
  22. Thanks for the information!!! Of course this is kind of depressing... Did they tell you guys that you were definitely not getting any funding? Or did they just not say anything at all? They wrote to me saying the grad school chair and the dept. chair would get together and decide on the funding...but that was a long time ago and the numbers are clearly not very encouraging...
