SO....how is everyone doing? What have you been doing to pass the time? I'm studying for oral examinations, which is not fun, but distracting, so useful.

A couple nights ago I dreamed I got an email from Fulbright with a big thumbs down in the subject line, so... xD

But during the waking hours I keep busy enough with grad school and teaching. I had an interview for a summer teaching job today, and am working on an internship application for the summer, too. Enough to keep my conscious mind from obsessing!

I'm actually a bit stressed about mine. My nerves were brain blocking me for days before the interview PLUS I worked the entire day before and 4-7am before my 9am interview so I only had about 4 hours of sleep. I did not feel prepared at all!! I'm ashamed to say it but I almost feel as if I "Trumped" some of my replies. I was so flustered! Its really been messing with me ever since to know that I could have messed up months and months of hard work and waiting in 20 minutes. Hopefully I'm just blowing the whole thing out of proportion in my memory. Its just driving me crazy!

Ooh, 4 hours of sleep sounds rough-- but it probably made your mind remember it as worse than it really was! I think it was really clear to the interviewers that I was nervous too (I rambled some and definitely didn't feel like I nailed my answers), and I bet they see that all the time. And they still have our proposals and other materials-- I don't think any interview could TOTALLY negate all that, you know? At least that's what I'm hoping.

Good luck to you as well! Let us know how it went! :)

I think it went okay! I did get some Polish questions, but nothing super academic that I couldn't answer. How did yours go?

Now it's just waiting (and busying myself panicking about the chaos that is America right now -.-)

My interview is tomorrow to 8:30. But I know @Mossy.artisthas had hers. From my understanding, none of the questions are in Polish and there are no curve ball questions that you wouldn't expect. What time is your interview?

That's really encouraging, thanks! Mine's at 11 tomorrow. Good luck!

So apparently this interview is going to be a video conference! Also, I was told by the Polish Fulbright people that the interview would be held in English. Not a thing was mentioned about testing our Polish speaking capabilities. I was told that, " the Academic Committee is going to discuss with you your grant objectives, your motivation for applying for the award, how do you perceive yourself as the Fulbright Grantee/ U.S ambassador to Poland etc. ". Sounds like basic questions. I'm just worried about what the heck I'm going to say if someone asks me about Trump or the general state of politics in America right now...I don't know what to say to anyone about that. What would you guys say? @bluet, what is your project about?

@Mossy.artist and @AnnMarie, either of you have your interview yet? Mine is tomorrow and though it looks like most of the interview should be in English, I'm still nervous they're going to throw some super academic Polish questions at me.

  7. Hi everyone! I'm also a semi finalist for Poland, and thought I'd share some insight I got from my program advisor: he said that part of the reason for interviews is to suss out language ability, and that since I'm a heritage speaker, it's likely that most, if not all, of the interview will be in Polish. But it also depends on the country-- apparently last year our research applicants to Russia and Mexico had their whole interviews in Russian or Spanish, but applicants to Columbia had most of theirs in English, for example. Anyway, it's something to potentially prepare for. (I, for one, am super nervous about this possibility because my speaking isn't very good at all, eek.)
