  1. Not directly applicable to your university or program, but imho, it doesnt matter when the official GRE scores come in and are matched, as long as they have unofficial GRE scores reported by you to evaluate. My GRE scores still haven't reached WUSTL (really ETS? ) and I got an interview invite like a week back.
  2. Thank you @Gram Positive and CONGRATULATIONS to you too! Vandy has some great research going on! Yeah no email here either @biosci, but I really don't think there's any difference b/w the two weekends - it's probably just related to scheduling all the invites into two rounds. Congrats once again!!
  3. Hey @biosci I just got a call, and no email so far - same case with you? Also, the weekend of feb 5th for the interview? YAY!!!!!!!!!!
  4. OMG JUST got a call from NEW HAVEN, CT ---> INTERVIEW INVITE FROM YALE BBS @biosci this is INCREDIBLE!!! You replied and exactly 2 minutes later I get the call. I'm soooo happpy, so relieved!! Thank you so much god!!
  5. Congratulations!! Happy for you, even more anxious for me now. I wish they'd rather just send me an email saying "nope, you didnt make it"
  6. Yale BBS MCGD invites went out according to the survey Anyone else applying to this program?
  7. I WISH. @fuzzylogician @Eigen please? PLEASE? Like my eyes are bleeding from reading posts about the role of GPA in applications. We ALL know people who've gotten in with low stats, and WE ALL know people with a 4.0 rejected from all sorts. If one part of your application lies out, you can definitely state a substantiating reason for that, and make it up with other parts in your application. END OF STORY. I dont know why we even gave so much importance to the poster who wanted to rant about their statistical skills and pdf reading abilities. If that's what they want to believe, more power to them. Maybe they can also start qualifying the presidential candidates on their chances based off of stats.
  8. Anyone know what the expected dates for the Yale BBS MCGD interview invites going out are?
  9. I would actually love to see that person's stats and give him/her a piece of my "realistic" advice on where he/she is fit for
  10. Couldn't have framed that better, perfectly written. *applause* I'm out of reps, else I'd have given you one. Honestly, the first time I saw this person's response I thought he/she was a troll, and this is not a good a place to be one where you're actually hurting and misleading people with fallacious information.
  11. Haha thank you @Bioenchilada, was hoping someone like you would catch on to that
  12. In the meanwhile I'm still furiously refreshing my email hoping for Yale BBS to say hello from the other side.
  13. Well I don't mean automatic filtering, but GPAs less than 3 do have a weak reception in the adcom, and unless you stand out exceptionally in everything else, your chances are hurt. Absolutely - same here. And yes, a strong well written LoR should seal the deal anyways.
  14. @BiochemVitD My 4 cents: 1) The GPA is low, but not extremely low, for two reasons: No one in that class had a GPA > 3.7, and since both your GPA and the GRE stats are looked upon together as qualifying stats, your strong GRE score should, should help your application in atleast not being instantly filtered. 2) Your GPA + GRE combo is further not a concern for your choice of schools, excepting UCSF, they're kinda picky there. Also, I don't know if you took a subject test, but UCLA goes all ga-ga over a strong subject GRE score. Something you should've done with an okay GPA. 3) Lastly, I myself have extensive industrial experience, but also some strong academic experience, but my industrial easily overshadows. But this can all very easily be turned into/against your favor in your SOP, hoping you did a good job there. 4) Lastly, recommendation letters can seal all doubts if they come from a professor/scientist, speaking to your potential to hack research and your promise as a candidate.
  15. Congrats @biosci!! Told ya! Interview dates? January 14th?
  16. @Ferroportin I would say that you have a conflict with another interview! That would urge them the most to accommodate around your schedule. Saying otherwise would be like, okay I worked hard for months, put my application together, and now when you call me for an interview I'm "unavailable" because I have other vague stuff going on? Not saying they wouldn't try to accommodate you, but in my opinion, saying you've already been scheduled for an interview elsewhere would have the best impression.
  17. Yup, they do let you choose an alternative date outside of their interview dates if you have a clash.
  18. What wait WHAT? WHEN HOW WHERE Now i'll be spending the rest of the day refreshing my email.
  19. LOLOL honestly though writing the essay took more perseverance than the example I stated in the perseverance essay . It was about my experience as a D1 athlete, but still nothing compared to writing an essay with shivering hands and a racing heart at 11 pm, when the deadline is an hour away.
  20. Oh nice. And haha, yeah it is early right? But I guess thats when my group is meeting, Plant and Microbial Biology.
  21. @123hardasABC I wish I was half as good at writing. It took me 3 straight hours for the perseverance essay. I almost was about to give up the application solely for the essay as it was 11 pm at night and the essay was the only thing remaining.
  22. @bicsy Finally someone else for WUSTL DBBS!! What was your program choice? What dates? I'll see you there if yours is also on the weekend of January 14th!
  23. I know. Pretty much all the schools I've applied to seem to start sending out invites beginning Dec. '15. Nervous yet anxious. Just want to get it over with
  24. @bioconfused Really? Fly over for the interview? Are they reimbursing you? Damn, apparently Mt. Sinai has a good deal of research funding! And what about the visas? Experiencing diarrhea is better than a trip to the US embassy in India. All the best dude.
