Just got a call from Rhet Comp at Oregon State. Really happy but now I'm having to decide between an offer for a top PhD program in gender studies or go with an MA in English. What are people's thoughts on rhetoric/composition and gender studies as far as the job market? I would really appreciate any advice

@ahaidaris congrats on both programs! Arizona will more than likely be the offer I take. Like you said, they have amazing faculty and the Southwest Research Institute at UA looks pretty cool. Will you be going to recruitment weekend?

For anyone waiting on Minnesota, I e-mailed their graduate director and found out I'm sorta wait-listed? I was told the chances of a spot opening are unlikely, so I'm taking it as a rejection. I am now left to wait on UW, and decide between Oregon State and University of Arizona (both women studies programs).

Also, shoutout to @heddatron! You helped me with the anxiety of waiting for minnesota lol

@sillysocks thanks, I have checked almost everyday (both portal and e-mail, my obsession with this is so real and unhealthy). And both say "waiting program decision." Even if I'm rejected from both i just want to hear now lol

@heddatron I'm on the same boat as you (still says "awaiting program decision", its such an annoying process :'-( I'm not sure whether to feel better about not hearing back or if they are just taking long with rejections for UMN. Did you see the acceptance on the results page like a week ago?

@soydominique props to you for applying to UC schools! I was too scared of competition lol And if I get a rejection I also won't be too hurt, they only accept 2 students out of over 75 applicants, the numbers are already against us! But thank you, and glad somebody else on this forum is doing Chican@ studies!! It's probably why we both applied to similar programs

I'm sorry about rejection @soydominique, but hey congrats on Michigan State! I'm sure you could ask some professors in cultural rhetoric to be part of your committee if you go there I still haven't heard anything from UW and i wonder why they do rejections at different times.

@soydominiqueOMG you should have applied! I wanted to apply for cultural rhetoric but my BA is in Women's Studies lol This page has definitely helped me with the stress, or at least knowing I'm not the only one who is anxious all the time lol And i feel you about UW! Guess we just have to wait and see.

I'm surprised you were encouraged for English given that Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary field! But like you said, sometimes research fit is what matters. Did you apply for cultural rhetoric at Michigan State? And have you heard from UW? I also applied and saw some people have been rejected but my application still says "submitted." Good luck with the rest of your apps! This is a stressful time for all of us lol

Accepted to University of Arizona! Pretty excited, but am still waiting on UW and Minnesota. Anybody heard anything about Minnesota yet? It seems like they are taking forever.

Heddatron, I don't think so from what I've read from previous years. I saw that their American Studies program already did interviews, I'm just hoping that GWS doesn't lol

Also applied to U of A, but I don't think we hear back until February.

I'm probably going to apply to both but am hoping for a funded phd program, also, what do people think of using a women's studies writing sample for rhetoric and composition programs? And do people know of programs that welcome feminist/chicana theory?Thank you!!!

Seeing this thread start so early makes me a little anxious lol I'm looking at University of Arizona (although I don't know whether to apply to MA or Phd), Oregon State, Washington State University, and University of Washington. What do people think of applying to Phd programs as an undergrad?
