  1. Did anyone reject a *funded* offer from UCLA in EE? (fellowship or RA)
  2. Hey, I guess you figured out your funding award by now. Let me know if not. What's your area? Who do you want to work under at UCLA? Thanks and good luck!
  3. This really sucks.. I got no info neither.. funding seems to be really tight.. Does anyone know what's the cost of attendance for PhD if we only have to take 1 class? is it like 3K a year? :s
  4. Counted? lol.. k that's a good estimate then.. yeah I hear the average award success rate is 10% across all disciplines (http://www.training.nih.gov/trainees/documents/nsfgrfp.pdf page 9), so there you go.. waiting is painful...
  5. Does anyone know how many awards are given out every year for electrical engineering students?
  6. Does anyone know how many PhD students they funded this year? (with an MS already)
  7. someone? anyone? Waiting for funding at UCLA and UCSD

  8. Break is over for UCLA, so we should be hearing back soon about funding. It's almost April 15!!! If anyone gets any piece of useful information, please share it with the rest of us.
  9. Yeah I haven't heard about funding yet and I got my offer early in February. I heard that they gave out a few fellowships, but I don't know what's next now (I'm in CTS). Anyone else has any information regarding funding for PhD students?
  10. They mentioned during the open house that students have to get in state tuition first before they get any waiver, but I don't think that's set in stone. Thanks for the information
  11. Looks like we're gonna have to wait until Monday.. anyone heard anything on Thursday and Friday?
  12. Cool congrats! Is that your top choice so far?
  13. Thanks for the information. I have no information regarding funding for MS students. My current adviser provided me with the following information just now: (from an automated email) The Department of Electrical Engineering, the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and the Graduate Division will be closed March 24-26. We will re-open on Monday, March 29, 2010, at 8 am. If your email is concerning funding offers, they are being prepared and will be emailed as soon as they are available. Please understand that each offer has to be reviewed and approved by multiple individuals before it can be considered final. Only final offers are emailed to the students. Once all offers have been emailed to the recipients, we will email all admitted students.
  14. To all the MS and PhD students accepted at UCLA: Given that I as well as some other fellow students are not getting any information regarding the funding situation at UCLA, this is a good place to discuss what's happening in that regard. Feel free to update other applicants about what's happening if you contact anyone in the department, and good luck to all! Question: To the ones already with a MS degree and going for their PhD only, can you share your profiles? I'll start with mine: UG GPA: 3.82 (average state univ back east), GRE Q800 Vcrap (below 400) A 4.5, MS GPA 4.0 top10 US school, 2 internships, 2 yrs research experience.
  15. Anyone heard about funding at UCLA for PhD?
  16. I'm guessing you're in the business field.. I definitely recommend USC for its strong connections with the industry in LA, specifically from the Marshall school of business. You might have heard of the "Trojan Family", well that's what's it's known for: great connections.
  17. I've got no news. The visit weekend was good but no news in terms of funding
  18. This is to the ones who got into the PhD program, Communication track and received a departmental / university fellowship: Is UCSD your top choice? If not, (and of course if you have another offer already), can you decline your offer so they move on to the 2nd round of fellowships? Thanks!
  19. I didn't contact anyone before I got the acceptance letter.
  20. @ theta: I was sent an email on February 23rd from the EE department saying that I've been accepted into the PhD program (Communications focus). The attached pdf said the following: Furthermore, you are one of a select group of applicants currently under consideration by the Communication Theory and Systems faculty to receive a fellowship to cover your graduate school tuition and other expenses. You will be notified during the week of March 15th in the event that we are able to award a fellowship to you. Did you receive the same thing? Does each research focus have its own fellowship? Thanks and congrats. Any inputs would be appreciated.
  21. I just finished my MS degree in EE (communications) at USC and got into the PhD program at both USC and UCLA.. I did not hear about funding yet from both schools. Here are my stats: undergrad gpa 3.8 from good state school, MS gpa 4.0, gre q:800, v:mediocre,aw:4.. if you got funding from usc can you please share your stats? thanks
  22. good luck to all of you. if your attendance is contingent upon the funding, then trust me, waiting for that is not any easier than waiting for the admission decision itself. I'm getting more paranoid than I was before I heard back..
