  1. Same here - hence taking a year off (by the moment I started actually doing the writing, PhD deadlines had all passed for fall 2009). I'm sorry to say this, but I think theses are more of a thing where you have to look at it more as you're hurt by not having one instead of helped by having one.
  2. I was just wondering if any of the Yale acceptees are doing Renaissance Studies or not. I know that that application requires review by two committees and is slightly different than just applying to the English program, so I do not know if I should take the no-call as bad news or simply no news.
  3. Waitlisted...... Though the email I got from the graduate representative was very nice and personal, so at least it felt better than a form letter. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if anyone got into UCLA and is probably not going (because you got into a program you prefer), can you let them know ASAP? It's one of my top choices and I'd like to get in/spend less time in limbo if possible.
  4. Re: W2010 Thanks! Anyway, I just called UCLA. They said that they're still processing apps, and have not sent out all the emails for either admission or rejection and that it could take a few more days. GAH!
  5. Some cautious optimism - I called UCLA a few hours ago (spurred on by an earlier post in this topic) and they said they were expecting to notify the admitted later this week and early next week. Jblevins may be the lucky beneficiary of a system/administrative glitch. Not definitely the case, but someone posted an admission from UVA that said that that happened to him/her. Like I said, cautious optimism with a slight bit of grounding.
  6. Hmm...though, apparently (from friends of my who applied last year) grad schools are notorious for added a few days to a week to an ETA. Though, I wouldn't expect it to be any more than a few days late if you called only last week....
  7. I focus on Renaissance Drama and Pop Culture/Film (originally, I was going to just say Renn Drama in my SoP and slowly sneak in the other one over the years, but one of my professors said that sometimes a split interest can help get a department's attention). Most of my research revolves around the intersection of disgust/horror and enjoyment, particularly around the body, its sensations, and other objects associated with it (food, shit, etc.). Hope this helps. Best of luck (and believe me, I know how you feel right now....it sucks and I hope it doesn't last long)!
  8. Hey, From the sounds of the phone call, it seemed that I was nominated for and received a fellowship (which may explain why it was early...but I've noticed two others post USC before me). The guy was director of graduate admissions and left a very nice voicemail. I don't know if they're having an admitted students weekend or what, since the time that I'll be flown out seems very loosely defined at the present. Btw, to everyone still waiting, this morning I myself was in an absolute panic/depression-spiral over 8 of my programs already getting back to people and not me. So I know it sounds very trite and hard to believe if you're still freaking out, but just cause you haven't heard anything yet doesn't mean that you can't hear amazing news tomorrow. Stay strong and remember that if that doesn't work, Girl Scout Ice Cream is currently available in stores.
