  3. Hi everyone! I have only just joined the group and still pretty new to everything here... I browsed through the discussion, but did not read all 115 pages, so sorry if I ask questioned which you have already answered. I am from Latvia and applied for the Fulbright scholarship to study for a Masters degree in the US. I was selected as an alternative candidate and was told that there is a 10% chance I will go, so I was pretty chill and accepted that I will not get the scholarship. 5 (!) days agao I got a call that they received additional funding and I am able to attend one of my top choices - NYU. (My first choice was Tufts University to which I was also accepted, but the tuition was too high for Fulbright to cover). I am over the moon and overwhelmed. I have received the first documents to sign, but not the final contract/grant(?). Does anyone know their monthly living expenses stipend yet? I am trying to plan my living arrangements etc. I saw that there is talk of facebook groups - are there groups for foreigners coming to America, maybe even NYC? Is someone here from NYC or has received a Fulbright to study there?

Thanks! Yeah, I guess I was a bit vague. So my question regarding Fulbright stipend for NYC still stands, but to be more specific - is it possible to find a room in a shared apartment with other students for around 1 000$ in the East Village? Since it is close to NYU I would really prefer living there and would be willing to live in a worse apartment for the sake of location. I have never been to NY before, but I found the East Village to be the best option (via my google searches) as I would prefer to be able to walk to school ( even if its a very long walk). But I am open to any other suggestions... maybe someone has lived or knows someone who lived in the East Village? Any concerns?

Hi everyone! I will be going to NYU through the Fulbright scholarship. Currently I have not been sent information on the amount of the stipend I will be given. Does anyone know the Fulbright rate for NYC (I believe there is a standard living expenses rate for each city)? Maybe those of you living there could share some information on how much money you spend on rent (do you live alone, with roommates, where etc)? How much do you need for other expenses (living normally on a budget but not eating left over pizza for a week)? Just some "insider info" and any advice could really help.
