  1. Have you decided where you're going yet, fellow aspiring (or experienced!) journalist?

  2. Just wanted to point out that you can get some sense of who else is in the Columbia class through its (growing) Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=113107955367602&ref=ts
  3. There's also an official Facebook group that you can request to join. Not much going on there yet, but does give some idea of who fellow students might be: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=113107955367602
  4. I didn't see that much of the journalism school specifically, I was mainly in a small meeting room in the building for the info session and I saw some students working on computers in part of the student center, but I didn't see that much else specifically because there weren't any tours. Just in general though, Columbia as a whole does have a very nice campus - I did a summer program there a couple of years ago and lived in one of the dorms.
  5. Thanks! Yes, Cuny is pretty new, I think it only opened in 2006 and it already has a pretty good reputation. Check out the website if you're interested: http://www.journalism.cuny.edu/ I think between NYU and CUNY, I'm leaning towards CUNY because of price, and a greater choice of courses and a larger faculty. The program I applied to at NYU is I think a little less structured and more project based and seemed to have slightly fewer course offerings, and I think CUNY would provide a more systematic instruction in multimedia. I'm not sure yet if I'm visiting, my mother has been encouraging me to, although I've actually already visited both briefly. CUNY had a summer academy for prospective students last summer over a few days that I participated in and I also went to an info session at Columbia last summer, that was pretty brief, although I'd also been on the Columbia campus before. One consideration is actually being on campus with accepted students and getting more of an impression of the student body. On the other hand, for Columbia, I know two people from my undergrad who I could also talk to about their experience. Plus both open houses happen to fall during a busy time in my semester and I'd have to figure out the logistics......still contemplating whether I'll go...
  6. I got accepted to Columbia - Digital Media, CUNY Journalism, NYU Studio 20 and American. I got merit aid from CUNY and NYU, but since I haven't yet heard about aid from Columbia, I haven't yet made a final decision.
