Thanks for your reply...After a extensive search of about a month and going to each and every university site, the conclusion I draw (considering only mechanical departments)is this--
1. University of Washington, Seattle, WA
2. North Carolina State university
3. University of Florida, Gainesville
4. University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
5. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY
6. Boston University, MA
7. Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.
8. University of Pittsburgh (Swanson), Pittsburgh, PA
9. University of Massachusetts--Amherst, Amherst, MA
10. Michigan State University East Lansing, MI
11. Northeastern University Boston, MA.
12. Colorado State University Fort Collins, CO
13. University of Connecticut Storrs, CT
14. University of Dayton Dayton, OH.
15. Oregon State University Corvallis, OR
16. University of Central Florida Orlando, FL
17. University of Minnesota--Twin Cities Minneapolis, MN
I know the list looks like insane, but these are the universities in which I find the professor's of my research interest. Now the problem is that I have got a really bad score in GRE (v390 and q 770). In addition to this I have got no paper published. However the points in favor are B.Tech, Mech Engg, KU, India, --75.06 % (GPA-3.7) and had done a project in my degree program which in some manner shows my research interest in energy sector. Did two interns one in steel industry and one in turbine manufacturing. Can you or anyone suggest me if there is any chance I have in getting in these uni. Yet to give toefl but I would give that only if there is any chance I have to get in these. I dont wanna waste another $ 200 (INR 9000)on this bull-shit exam.
I am really sorry for such a big list...I can't even help myself on that....But really expecting help from others....Plz
