  1. Thanks to those who are willing to share all kinds of results. Keep posting!
  2. Congrats! Anyone willing to share? Even if you were rejected after being waitlisted...
  3. Hey thanks. I got the notice from the director on Wednesday morning.
  4. I was informed about an hour ago that I was accepted from the waitlist. It looks like they accepted only one person from the waitlist this year...
  5. OK as promised, I just received the final result: I was on the waitlist and eventually got accepted at the PhD program in political science at Rice U, with 5 years of full funding (tuition waiver + $17k stipend + health insurance). According to the personal email from the director, I think they took only one person off the waitlist. So I personally feel getting waitlisted means a rather large possibility of getting admission. But again, it's probably only because I was the first one on the list. I never asked them about my rank on the list because I was afraid of another frustration...
  6. Hi everyone, A couple of days ago I read one of the messages here that people who get rejected after being waitlisted don't really brag about it so we get this illusion that there's a big chance of getting accepted after being waitlisted. So since we're still waiting for replies from schools, why don't we begin the thread for people who got off from the waitlist and accepted as well as those who got rejected after being waitlisted? This might be a bit redundant as the results page, but the results page doesn't allow you to search the waitlisted ones... If you get off the waitlist and are offered funding, feel free to indicate. Thanks. I'll post mine as soon as I get the final result...
  7. My waitlist letter specifically said that all phd students get full funding and due to their financial restrictions they can't offer me admission with funding at the moment.
  8. Hey santana, so according to your theory, if a waitlisted applicant is on top of the list they might be notified much earlier than april 15, no? i have another question: if peterson says last year 10 people were offered admission at X phd program and 8 enrolled, does the number 8 include those who were waitlisted and later got accepted or does that mean they took 2 waitlisted applicants to ensure the incoming class is composed of 10 students? thanks
  9. Hello everyone, A few days ago I received an email from the director of the department of political science at Rice U. The email mentioned that my application file is one of the best and the committee is very supportive of it but because of Rice's central administration's budgetary restrictions, they're not yet able to offer me admission with funding at the moment. The email also stated that all Rice's phd students receive tuition waivers and stipend. So based on this email i feel i'm qualified but somehow the final result depends on the money. I've read some previous posts from applicants who also got waitlisted. I know I can ask them about my rank on the waitlist, but since the email has already said that i'm one of the best and if they're "that" willing to let me know about my rank, they would have told me in the first place (no?); I feel asking about my rank on the waitlist only makes me sound too desperate and anxious, which is not how i usually act...(ok maybe i'm really overanalyzing it but it's really hard to stay cool and to desire Rice so badly simultaneously...hahaha) So there, I'm looking for some suggestions. Anything. Let me know what I can do to get off the list. Or if you happen to be really familiar with Rice's phd program in political science, feel free to write anything. I haven't seen anyone got accepted to Rice's poli-sci program this year on the forum, so i'm pretty curious.
  10. Hey, seriously, some superficial things actually matter in the admission process. According to an old professor of mine, plenty of our alumni whose stats were nothing competitive got accepted at ivy grad schools because their appearance stood out, like they looked nice at the interview, they were approachable and good at making conversations, etc.
