  1. Yes, I got in - thank you!! They also offered a funding package which I wasn't expecting. Ryerson was my first choice but then some things changed at my place of employment so I am now also considering Dalhousie distance program, which I was accepted to as well. Ryerson's program looks so amazing though...
  2. I received a phone call from Ryerson about an hour ago.
  3. I just heard from U of C today (advanced standing). Has anyone heard from Ryerson?
  4. For the people who received acceptances to the U of C 1-year program - what specialization are you in?
  5. Does anyone have more information about Ryerson? Their program looks amazing but the fact that they only admit 30-35 MSW students and that it is pretty research heavy is making me nervous as I have a much more practical background... So far I have started my applications for U of T, U of C and Dalhousie and not sure if I will apply to any more.
  6. According to (https://brownschool.wustl.edu/Academics/Master-of-Social-Work/Pages/Policy-Specialization.aspx? Washington University has a Policy Specialization. Their recent graduates have been employed as Community Organizers, Legislative Aides, Lobbyists and Policy Analysts. “This specialization prepares students to pursue policy changes on a wide variety of issues that affect marginalized populations. Students develop competencies in policy design and analysis; research and writing for policy deliverables like policy briefs and white papers; planning and executing advocacy campaigns; and lobbying. In the context of careers such as legislative aides, policy analysts, community organizers and lobbyists, students are ready to confront issues of health care reform, urban education and income disparity. Students graduating with the Policy specialization are qualified for a broad range of policy-related careers in the public, voluntary and private sectors. This specialization prepares students to find high-impact policy positions at local, state and national levels both the executive and legislative branches of government.”
  7. Thanks for the reply. How are you enjoying the program so far smpalesh? I do intend on applying to the Social Justice & Diversity stream.
  8. Hi everyone, I plan on applying for the one year MSW program at a few different universities. My interest is definitely in more structural/anti-oppressive MSW programs so I am leaning towards York and Ryerson over U of T. From what I can see U of T seems like a more research/clinical school - would that be correct? I am from the West coast so have only used their websites to learn about their programs. I am also wondering about admissions and how many get accepted each year to those schools. According to the first poster it looks like York's odds are a little bit better - would people agree with that? I won't be finished my BSW until next summer so I am hoping that it won't hurt my chances. I do have more than 5 years of social service experience that I completed after my first degree. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
