Mmphln, UT Austin sent out some acceptances this week and will likely send out more acceptances/rejects next week. It's dope you applied to some schools out of the country. I had planned to, but didn't end up having the funds to pay for the few extra schools I wanted to apply to. One of them being University of Toronto, since I'm more on the film than television side.

Oh, MFA! I would suggest applying to MA programs, especially with an MFA. They like to see research experience and the MFA might throw them off a little. Like what was mentioned above, fit is super important. I would make sure to craft a personal statement that explicitly speaks about what professor/s you want to work with. That's huge! Question: Are acceptances/rejections and that come via mail being sent to people's current or mailing addresses?

Maybe_Someday...do u have a master's? Or do u just have a BA? It's nearly impossible to go strait from BA to PHD in this field. I tried! (Haha)

I'm not PHD, so I heard a couple of days ago. I think the Phd's heard a while ago.

USC VS. UCLA Battle? Admitted at both, not sure about what parts of each school are better/different.

Last year the Harvard rejects came on Feb 28th, March 2nd and March 3rd. I'm expecting their decisions to roll out very soon. I haven't seen ANY acceptances, so I don't have much of a prediction as to when the send out acceptances. Heck, it could be the same time as rejections. Saw plenty of rejections from Chicago, so I'm looking out for one in the mail because they accepted people waaaaaay back on the 9th of February....unless they are going to waitlist people. I'm not sure about that one. I'm hoping UCLA keeps their promise to notify by March 15th. I was thinking no one would hear from Emory until the end of march. Some rejections came in early February last year, but I haven't seen anything yet.

1) MA or PhD? MA & PHD 2) What do you want to do with your degree? Teach, be the female Roger Ebert 3) What is your undergrad degree in? Philosophy...POW! 4) What topics do you want to study? Existentialism on Film, Reception/Audience perception, Absurdity, Love (which is usually studied superficially and not philosophically) 5) What's the #1 thing you concentrated on when working on your apps? My Personal Statement, making that unique and honest! 6) What's the thing you fear the most about being accepted and if accepted are you going to pimp up your dorm or apartment like a true movie diva? I fear nothing.....I'm a stone cold film-freak. Just kidding. I'll go with 'hating the school I ultimately choose'. 7) Do you like making movies or just studying the history, theory and criticism of films? I like all of those things, with theory and criticism first. I think you need a superior understanding of the aforementioned things to become a good film maker. 8) Do you even like going to the movies? Love it...mostly with my boyfriend though because we hack most films we watch to bits with our conversations. Movie theaters themselves are really cool, too. Especially ones that are historic. 9) When people know you want to study film don't you always hate it when they ask you, "What's your favorite movie?" Not so much, because I usually tell them something completely ridiculous like 'Transformers 2' and walk away. 10) Tell me a story about talking to someone about applying and them "not getting you". "Oh, so that's like studying movies and stuff? What does philosophy have to do with that?"

Swagato, Not sure if UF is completely done. Are people wait listed there often? I'm hoping a USC accept/reject will come any day now. -
J.D. Salinger on Grad School Admissions

Love this quote. All it is, is commentary on ridiculous elitism and reliance on credentials (among other things)....it's not an attack on education, obviously. Of course the quote makes sense, if the person reading it cares about having a life outside of an institution, and perhaps enjoys learning for the sake of it rather than education for some instrumental use. -

People were already invited to interview weekend, around late January. Acceptances seem to go out in late feb/early march via the website. Some as early as Feb 28th. Swagato, they admit about six students a year into the Emory program. -

I've heard from USC PhD, they moved my file to be considered from the M.A. program. That was back at the beginning of February. Hoping that's a good sign. I'm thinking that Harvard will notify by postal mail very soon, last year they seemed to notify at the end of February and the beginning of march. Swagato, do you know how many people they accept to Emory's M.A. program? I applied there as well. -

For sure, I'll be sure to check around this forum.....there isn't really a centralized place for us! As your third time applying....what do you think has been the issue? Is it 'fit'? You certainty applied widely. I doubt an adcom would take the time to come on here snoop, I'm sure you are being considered at UC Irvine! I love all the schools for different reasons, but I'm coming straight from undergrad so I know it's a longer shot for the Ph.D Master's programs seem like they take forever to notify..... -
