  1. I applied to both MA and Ph.D. programs my last year of undergrad, but also applied for a Fulbright grant. I ended up getting the Fulbright and accepted at Michigan, which I deferred for a year. After my Fulbright I came back to the states, started the Ph.D. at Michigan, then reapplied to programs this year and decided to opt for the imbedded Master's (which I will finish in April). I'd suggest taking a Ph.D. track that's funded over an MA. You can always opt out of the Ph.D., take the terminal Master's, and reapply. That way you get a funded Master's (regular Master's programs aren't often funded) and will have a better chance of getting into a top school your second time around. Seems like a pain because you'll probably end up having to redo some course-work, but in the end I think it's worth it. Good luck!
  2. I ran into Mengozzi today and he was reviewing a stack of admissions files. It seems that they're still going through them, so that's good news, I think. A fourth accepted student is visiting us on Monday, but I'm not sure if he/she is ethno or historical. I applied to Madison too (Ph.D), but don't think I'll end up going. They told me they wouldn't have financial offers until April 9th or later (I have to have my decisions finalized by the 5th). Plus I heard that their funding is spotty at best. For an MA, though, it's def. a good option. The funding is probably comparable to Michigan for those who get it and it seems that there is a better working relationship between students and faculty (which we honestly don't have here). (FYI the funding at Michigan is pretty bad right now....it's a huge point of contention amongst us grad students and I honestly don't know that we'll even be able to fund the usual 2 incoming first years this year.......)
  3. Wait-listed at NYU (heard about 2.5 weeks ago). Annoying, since it was my safety.
  4. Musicology and ethnomusicology make decisions together regarding admissions. I do know that we have one ethno student visiting on Thursday who has been accepted, but there is always the possibility that she will turn down the offer. But I would wait to see what your POI has to say. Do you mind my asking who it is?
  5. We already sent out our acceptances and are now in the process of narrowing down the list for funding. That's lame that you didn't get notifications, but not surprising given the state of our administration. I would still contact your POI. I had a friend who never heard back from Indiana and it turns out he was accepted, they just forgot to notify him. Who knows, maybe the same thing happened in your cases....
  6. Anyone on here coming to visit Umich this weekend for musicology accepted students? I'm a student there now (though taking a terminal Master's and moving on) and I was just wondering.
  7. Hi Sarah: Chicago already sent out acceptances in January. I know this because I am wait-listed there. For some reason they just take a really long time to send the rejection letters, which is sucky. I talked to someone this weekend who waited months to get her rejection letter from them. ---Vikki
  8. Those bastards. I heard UPenn only took 2 people anyway...........
  9. Someone said today, but I'm assuming if you don't get a phone-call or an e-mail it's a rejection. I think only rejections are sent via snail mail, but then again I don't know for sure about Harvard. Anyone have any insight??
  10. I would imagine Harvard has awesome funding. I'm coming with a master's from Umich where the stipend is 12,000 per year.....absurdly low. But I think Harvard is in the 24 range, or at least was...........
  11. Anyone hear anything about if upenn and Harvard have sent out their acceptances yet? They're the only schools I haven't heard from. I'm in at Stanford, wait-listed at Chicago, interviewing at Northwestern this weekend, had a phone interview with NYU and one with Mcgill next week. I alo go it at Wisconsin Madison but i dont think they have funding so I'm taking them off my list. I'd appreciate stats. Thanks!
