I know this from a FES student that current batch hasn't been able to find decent industry/consulting internships at all. I know that a good percentage of batch went back to their home for summers while the rest worked in NGOs, not that I have anything against NGOs. Worth noting that UCSB Bren, Yale FE&S, Duke Nicholas, UMich SNRE arrange an annual job fair together, and that Nicholas/Bren graduates constantly outperform those of FES there.

Honestly, I would just ask for how much you would need to be offered for you to realistically consider the school. Even if it's a really high amount, worst-case scenario is that they'll just offer you less money. I ended up asking for $20K more a year ($40K total) which is exactly how much I'd need for it to be worth it for me to go there (waiting to hear back from them though).

    Hello everyone!
I'm looking at MPP/MPA/etc programs with a focus on environmental policy. I'm pretty clueless about how to go about finding funding for grad school, so I was wondering...
How likely is it to get at least some funding to the top programs? Are there any programs that are known for funding master's, similar to Princeton's WWS? Is funding often merit based or need-based? Are there any other good places to look for external funding sources? What do the majority of students do? Student loans or find funding? Thanks in advance for any answers!

If you want to work in policy and have a broader impact on the field, then a school with a presence in the northeast would probably be advisable. I'd suggest taking a look at the top schools the DC/NYC area - Fletcher, SAIS, SIPA, Georgetown. From your background and interests, I would say the Fletcher MALD is likely far and away the best choice for you; they have a very strong focus on nonprofits and environmental policy and the multidisciplinary focus of the curriculum could be a great fit for your background. (Disclaimer, I am a Fletcher grad).

As well, it sounds like you have a strong resume, so with a decent test scores and undergrad GPA you'd probably be a strong candidate for scholarships.
