  1. Can't tell if typo or if you just really love nematodes
  2. I have a feeling only a handful of Scripps interview invites have gone out, and those are probably for certain focus areas. I'm waiting on Scripps as well!
  3. To people interviewing with UMich PIBS: Did you find that some of your POI's are missing from the dropdown list for interview faculty? Looks like I won't be able to interview with any of the faculty I listed in my SOP :/
  4. Ugh. Is it bad that I want January 4th to come more than I want Christmas at this point? Basically the rest of my schools will release their invites that week and I'm so impatient
  5. Congrats! I'll be interviewing there too! Which date are you choosing? AND as I type this up I also just got an invite to UCSD Biological Sciences! Ah I never imagined my applications would be so successful holy nuts
  6. I applied to MCO as well. It's under a different area than Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS); MCO's host department is Molecular and Cellular Biology. From past years I would have expected MCO invites to be out by early next week, but someone posted here recently saying they talked to someone in MCO and learned that they are meeting later than normal this year (like after finals). So I'm expecting invites either right before Christmas, or right after the new year.
  7. I'm in a similar position, but I live on the east coast.. I have an interview in Michigan, and then one in California immediately following. I don't want to fly back home just to fly another 5-6 hours the next day!

    NDSEG 2016

I'm really surprised no one has started an official topic for this. Is the NDSEG Fellowship just not as popular among Gradcafers as others (e.g. GRFP)? Welp, the application deadline is tomorrow (technically, today where I live), and I'm still writing my Summary of Goals. Yay procrastination! Fortunately I'm picking and choosing a lot of relevant information from my other applications. For anyone else applying, what did you think of the NDSEG application?
  9. Okay good, that's how I've been going about it as well.
  10. So this is kind of off-topic but also kind of relevant. When you all email faculty (whether it's your PI, a POI, or an adcom), do you address them as "Dr. XXX" or "Prof. XXX"? I always have an internal dilemma about this when I email someone new and they are a PhD professor.
  11. Hahaha, I was actually going to add something like "And in case anyone is wondering, no it wasn't Harvard." I did apply there though! (MCO)
  12. Thank you for sharing, @fuzzylogician. That went over a lot better than I thought it would have. Lucky that she was in NYC at the same time you were! @TakeruK, thank you; that helps ease my mind about attending 2 in a row. From what I've gathered so far, most/all of my interviews have one easy/social day with one busy interview day. The third day seems like it will be pretty lax and is reserved mainly for departure. What I'll be dreading the most is being on a plane for 14+ hours within 6 days, as these programs are in very different parts of the US. Your logistical suggestions sound very useful, I will definitely keep them in mind!
  13. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I just got an invite to a top 10 program; didn't contact anyone beforehand, not even an admissions secretary.
  14. Oh my gosh, you deserve a medal for that. Good to know that it's doable! If you don't mind me asking, how did the 5th program take it when you didn't attend their interview? @fuzzylogician
  15. I just got an interview offer to one of my top programs! I couldn't hold back from telling everyone, but I'll have some restraint and not announce the program until someone else says they've gotten invited too. I'm so freaking happy though AH
  16. Does anyone have experience with doing back to back recruitment visits? I have an interview weekend planned for Jan 28-30, and I just got another invite for a Jan. 31-Feb. 2 interview with another program. The latter program is definitely in my top 3 and there's no way I'm turning it down. Will I be too burnt out? I know the answer to that question depends solely on my own personality, but any insight would be nice. How do I best prepare myself for them?
  17. My advice to future applicants: Do not sign up for the GRE Search Service.
  18. Wow that's weird, but congratulations! Edit to prevent spam: I just saw that someone posted on the results page about an invite to UCSD "Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS)".. is this a troll or typo or is there actually a BBS at UCSD?

  20. I can't see why a professor would invite you to do graduate work with him if he wasn't sure you'd be invited. Congrats in advance! Though, if I were in your position, I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet. Not because I don't think you'll be invited, but because it'll add to the surprise factor when you finally do get that invite.
  21. Not sure if anyone ever answered your question, but I think each department/program within DBBS meets separately. This is probably why different programs list a different point of contact for applicants to use. Also, my interview invite came from the specific program to which I applied, not from the overall DBBS.
  22. January 28-30 - just confirmed the date! You?
  23. AHHH MICHIGAN CALLED BACK AND I GOT AN INTERVIEW!!! The caller did say that they haven't had their big official review meeting yet but they are beginning to give invites to a few applicants. @biosci MCDB what about you?
  24. @biosci and @Gram Positive well at least it means there's some movement from U-M's end. I'm hoping we all hear back soon!
  25. @biosci, U-Michigan PIBS! I hope they call back and/or send a followup email soon so I know what's up haha. Like what if they called for something mundane and I'm getting my hopes up for nothing..
