  1. I got an email about every update. And thanks, I actually ended up declining my place - was at Cambridge for undergrad so decided to leave and came to the US for grad school. I'm sure Gates would've been a really good experience though.
  2. No, I applied as an international student so no idea about the American timeline I'm afraid. Good luck!
  3. Sure, just checked my emails, and this was the timeline: 3 February: department offer 26 February: invited to Gates interview 22-23 March: Gates interview 24 March: Gates offer
  4. Hi, I was offered a Gates Scholarship last year for MPhil Linguistics. The timeline for me was 1) being offered admission by the department 2) (quite a bit later) being invited to interview by Gates 3) being offered Gates. So the way I understand it Gates won't even touch your application until it's put forward by the department. Bearing in mind I applied as an "international" (not as an American) so the timeline might be slightly different? If you have any questions you think I could help with, do ask! (I didn't accept this offer in the end but did my undergrad at Cambridge.)
  5. Thanks, that's reassuring! My only problem is that I won't be able to fly over to check places out, so grad accommodation might indeed be my safest option given that it's guaranteed to live up to at least some standards.
  6. Also officially accepted Chicago just over a week ago! Has anyone heard anything good or bad about grad housing in general or certain buildings in particular? Also, do we know how competitive it is?
  7. Declined three offers yesterday, afaik all three have waitlists so hopefully this will have freed up a spot for someone who wants it. Good luck to those still waiting, not much longer to go
  8. So what are we thinking about Harvard's timeline? There was one waitlist on the results page but no acceptances or rejections.
  9. Ooooh, I see. Fingers crossed you get in, there must be precedence for that, otherwise why would they even have a wait-list? In any case, congrats
  10. Do they have a waitlist?
  11. Congrats! Which school?
  12. I'd say just ask them? For me, every school has been very open about how much they can guarantee and how much they might have left on top of that if the initial amount doesn't cover all my flights.
  13. Same, I'm coming from overseas too... and feel bad about not being able to give a definite answer to a place about when I'm coming just because I'm waiting on others as well. But oh well, the must know how this works. Whose Open House are you going to?
  14. To be honest I would just like to know at this point, one way or the other, because I would really like to finalise travel arrangements. Though obviously I understand that the main factor driving the admissions process is not my obsession with flight prices
  15. So are we now assuming that if you haven't been interviewed by NYU you'll likely be rejected? Have any syntax/semantics-type people been interviewed? 3 weeks ago I seem to remember it was the phonology people and then they said other specialisations might interview later, but I'm starting to feel like all interviews must have taken place.
