  1. Good to know. Thanks!
  2. Thank you! I did have a wonderful phone conversation with a faculty member at NYU; not my POI, but her research interests also intersected very well with mine. I didn't even consider that they might count that as contact enough to get a feel for my personality and fit with the program. Thanks! I also agree with busybee that who is selected does have more to do with departmental politics and the interests they need or want applicants to have for that year. I'm saying this as someone who did get an interview at a school (I prefer to be private about where I'm interviewing, so I will forgo mentioning the school). Although I think I'm a pretty solid candidate, my gut feeling is that it has less to do with me or my application, and more to do with politics and what's going on on their end in terms of which faculty they need to find students for. They have a faculty member who has a limited (and new/emerging) scope of interest, and I have that same "pocket" of interest. Of course, I'd love to believe that I'm amazing and the top of the stack for every school--- but something tells me otherwise here.
  3. Quick question- does NYU generally interview all candidates? I saw that they interviewed a few so far; really hoping I'm still in the running there. Also very hopeful about Princeton, but who knows at this point.
  4. That seems like a great sign!
  5. Princeton usually notifies acceptances the first week of February, it looks like. I'm not sure if they do interviews, though.
  6. You are not alone! I'm sad to see the sociocultural interview for NYU, although I'm still hoping! And of course I'm happy for the lucky recipient.
  7. Unfortunately, I did not post the Harvard interview. Sorry!
  8. I have been assuming the same as well. But I wonder if that's true for different parts of the departments? For example, someone just posted an NYU interview from the physical anthro side... I applied for sociocultural and am really hoping for an interview. I don't know how unlikely that is now.
  9. Congrats, Meglet! What wonderful news. Here's hoping that such an early acceptance bodes well for your other applications. What is your area of interest?
  10. Hi anthrostudentcyn, I applied to McGill, but to the MA program since I just have my BA right now. Feel free to message me!
  11. I am also feeling pretty anxious about this whole process. Still though--- last year, the earliest date anyone heard from any of the schools I applied to (or, at least, posted an acceptance on GradCafe) was the first week of February. So, even if things are relatively similar to last year, it's still a good three week wait for me. (Unfortunately, that school happens to also be my top choice). Trying to just take it a day at a time, tbh. :/
  12. Which brings me to a question I've had for a few days now... when do we normally hear back from schools? Most websites for the schools I am applying to say they'll let applicants know in mid-March... is that really for the folks who do not get in, though? Do we really hear back as early as late January? Busybee, I liked your comments a lot- many good points. I, for one, have turned to adult coloring books, homemade cappuccinos, puzzles, and some fiction books in order to de-stress after the application season. I hope everyone else is able to enjoy the holiday season and take a break, as well! (I also got about 15 ethnographies from the local library, but first, coloring!)
  13. Thus far I've submitted apps to Harvard, NYU, Princeton and McGill--- I wanted to get the most competitive ones out of the way (although in truth, they are all competitive). Still finalizing the rest of my list, with eight being the max. I cannot wait for everything to be submitted!
  14. Is it too late to introduce myself? I am applying to mostly PhD programs this fall, hoping to concentrate in medical anthropology. I'm applying to eight, which I must admit, I think is my absolute limit--- it's a lot of work! One of the programs is a MA program. I graduated in 2014, took some time off doing some not so impressive jobs but also volunteering a ton in my field, and hoping that *somehow* I will get into a PhD program this spring. I wanted to introduce myself because undoubtedly I'll be on here being a worry wort come January, and seeing others share their opinions or advice about waiting it out will surely be helpful. Best of luck to everyone!
