  1. @Ecogirl5 Stanford Biology is under the 14 home programs of biosciences. If you indicated other departments you were interested in, they might have sent your app to be reviewed by the other departments. You were asked to pick up to 3 additional home programs you were interested in, I think.
  2. @katpillow Dang, I hate to be the one breaking bad news but the interviews for non-neuro people were just over 7-8, 11-12 Jan. They said they invited 160 people, will accept 80 and usually 40 will enrol. :/ I hope your other applications go well. I'm sure you will have some choice! You applied so many I didn't even bother to count!! Also, I'm in the same state for Rockefeller - they said all decisions will be emailed by end of this week. I'm waiting to hear back from UT Houston/MD Anderson too - they have 3 rounds of invites, and they have sent their first. It's a rolling app and I submitted mine after the encouraged deadline so I'm not surprised I didn't get the first wave.
  3. O my @katpillow how did you manage to finish all those apps. That's a feat in itself P.S. did you interview at Mt Sinai? I was there so I might have seen you ~
  4. The Scripps date conflicted for me and Scripps accommodated me for their Feb slot though it was full. Just let them know you can't make it, and try to get an unofficial visit or get another slot.
  5. I've only been to one at Mt Sinai. But the format is standard for faculty interviews - usually one to one, sometimes a few students to one prof. You meet with the profs you are interested in back to back and talk to them. Each prof has a different style, some like to talk about their research, some will ask you about your research, why you want come to the school, where else you applied, your career goals. There are also social events to interact with graduate students, alumni etc. It's as much about you getting to know the school as them getting to know you. During the whole process, you are kinda being observed. Well, not in a big brother 1984 sorta way, but just don't do something stupid like get completely drunk, say something inappropriate etc.
  6. I haven't heard back yet. But it seems they send out rejections after acceptances. Oh wells XD
  7. UCSF BMS has sent out all their invites[I emailed], i think so too for stanford, but you might wanna check with them.
  8. I just brought my backpack with extra copies of my cv. I don't think it's such a big deal what bag you bring.
  9. Does anyone know if MD Anderson(UTHouston) has sent out their invites? I'm an international. Also waiting for Rockefeller ~
  10. Stanford cancer bio folks; the admissions committee meeting for finalizing interview invites ended at 5pm PST on 5 Jan. [Friend's PI is on the admissions comm] So everybody chill, it's coming out soon..
  11. Jan 11. Hopefully I'll hear soon; I have the option of a Skype interview since I'm an international, not sure if it would put be at a disadvantage.
  12. I got an invite for TSRI La Jolla and the date they offered is mar 3-6, which clashes with Stanford(still waiting to hear back)..heard the feb slot is fully booked. ARGH, advice?? I'm an international student btw
  13. For those applying to TSRI, they are sending it in waves. My app was only completed and sent for review 19 Dec, and as of yesterday they haven't reviewed mine. I listed Cali schools. I'm an international student
  14. Feeling bummed about Harvard BBS.. Anyhow, i emailed Sloan kettering and they said Applications are still being reviewed by our admissions committee. Once they have reviewed yours you will be notified via email.[means hope for me!] Trying to have hope to just wait out for Harvard..maybe they haven't finished and have to send more on monday. Getting into grad schools is like screening for colonies, you just need that one colony that has what you are looking for inside.
  15. John Marshall worked in the lab adjacent to mine! [I worked with Wayne Bowen who does sigma receptors]; the main thing I remembered about him was the Italian visiting scientist in his lab that was always there after hours haha. Providence is a small city, so there isn't as much to do in the city itself compared to nearby Boston(which is one hour away), but Brown campus always has something going on. There are theater shows, small concerts by musical groups etc every weekend. The grad community isn't massive so I think you would get more personalized attention.
  16. Hey I graduated from Brown undergrad! It's a nice campus, I hope you like it May I ask who you are interested in working with? My PI is part of the neuro grad program
  17. Last night I dreamt I got rejected. And I could remember a super detailed email too. *patpat* It's just a dream.
  18. I applied cancer bio as first choice for UCSF BMS and haven't heard back either. Hopefully, fingers crossed.
  19. Oh, so that's what you meant by tracks. I keep refreshing my email, need to stop!!
  20. Omg! nervous. I applied to UCSF BMS too. There's no specific track for it.
  21. Mt Sinai is 7-8 jan, which I picked, so I'm hoping the other of my top choice would grant me an interview to. GSK and Mt Sinai are my top choices. Historically they send it out over 2 days..will let you know if you got rejected or invite for an interview..what i derived from digging in to the results database
  22. No email..nothing in spam..my GSK account just shows complete. Maybe they are still sending stuff out..Was hoping to get an interview - Mt Sinai and GSK are my top choices and they are interviewing close to each other, so it would be nice to check out both in 1 trip
  23. Oh no that's my top choice and I haven't heard back I'm an international student..did you get an email or a phone call?
  24. yay it's finally open so we can talk about things that matter...
