  1. I have not applied to the university yet, even though I do have the application done. I always like at least to get some initial contact before hand, because the problem that I've been running into is that the area of research that I'm interested in (microbial ecology) is not being well funded. Also, a lot the programs that I've narrowed down, you have to have "approval" from advisors before you apply.
  2. So I've gone through the list of professors I'm interested in working with at the schools/programs I want to apply to. I've contacted the professors via email, but many of the ones I'm interested in have not responded to my emails. Should I continue sending emails, or should I try and call them?
  3. I'm wanting to return back to graduate school and finish up my degree. I was enrolled in a program, but I had a horrible advisor who didn't do his job of being my research mentor. He left me to struggle and I had to end up leaving his lab and left the university altogether. I decided that I want to return to another program/school and start anew. The problem I'm having is how to formulate my past experience without blaming my professor or cutting him down too much?
  4. Hey guys, I'm applying to a few graduate programs and one of the applications ask me to also write a diversity essay along with the personal statement. I'm a bit lost on what to write for it. The basic question is how would I add to the diversity of the student body of the university and the program. I am a member of a minority group, but I really don't want to base the essay on just my ethnical background. Any advice?
