I officially accepted my offer at Penn State

Boulder's welcome weekend was incredible...I can't imagine being anywhere else. Will def. be telling UNC Chapel Hill "thanks for your time, but..."

This is awesome. I came up with a few questions on my own but I really like these questions and will used them for my own evaluation. Just got back from my first visit to Michigan State and it was awesome. I thought i knew a lot about the department since i did my MA there but I had no idea. Hope everyone else is having a good times at visits and decisions.

Found out I was waitlisted at NYU, I'm really shocked and happy that my application was even considered! Don't give up hope guys!

Congratulations @cikkatikkaskwarr! Their SAC program is really great. If I go there I might try to get a graduate certificate in the SAC Department.

Well judging by your answers you must be in academia hence your defensive stance, but from  a fresh and new student's perspective who is new to the land and the culture, getting used to the ethics and rules of the place takes time. How often would you compare your new students with the others you might have worked with when it comes to results? Every student has the potential and the will to see it through otherwise he wouldn't have applied to the program in the first place, but he does need support and guidance, that is what advisors are for and not for pointing a gun at your head everytime you work and bring out results. TAing 2 courses may be the norm but it is no way light when you have assignments almost every week and even into the finals and the strength is about 25 each. I am not justifying anything, I just have not heard anywhere where your advisor deems you not worthy enough in the first semester itself.

I don't dislike ASU but its primary focus is interpersonal and health communication. I'm the only person in the accepted cohort that I met that is interested in the same things and also the only ASU alumni. They admitted 20+ people to ASU, only 3 didn't come to the welcome weekend.
 
My advisor says that her experience with critical rhetoricians going through ASU's PhD program is that they are underdeveloped as scholars--which I definitely don't want to be. 

I want to study subjects like International Communication, New media, Visual communication and Effects of Interactive and online media, etc. What can I do to better my chances to get an admit ?

In my cycle I only applied to one program because I KNEW it was the right one for me. My husband and I decided that if I didn't get in my first try we'd move here and try to "back door" my way in - but fortunately that wasn't necessary.
Anyway, I hadn't been here before I was admitted and moved. Not only that, but I'm a cold weather person - my favorite place in the world is Anchorage, AK. I've liked the area a lot more than I expected to, but seriously, grad school is only a handful of years in the grand scheme of things. If the program is right, it's right.

And UNC and Boulder are great programs, I would choose Boulder since they are offering more money and its a rising program! You could go there and make a name for yourself!!!

sorry to hear. I was going to apply there and then I changed my mind. 212 applications and only 10 spaces is kind of ridiculous. I'm sure your next notification will be an acceptance to a school you love
