Any one wants to claim the UMASS waitlist? It looks pretty unusual that UMASS waitlist comes before UMASS acceptance based on the result in the past.

Kai von Fintel just posted this link on Facebook: he got into UMass off the waitlist, notified by telegram on April 12. So, there is always hope!

Hi! That was me. I received an email from Viviane Deprez with the offer and an invitation to visit the University yesterday. I didn't expect an acceptance since the last acceptance post on the results page was more than a week ago... but I got it! So maybe they do not send their acceptances all together.

Ooooh, I see. Fingers crossed you get in, there must be precedence for that, otherwise why would they even have a wait-list? In any case, congrats

I've been wait listed too, but I'm just happy and I hope someone declines the offer so I can get in.

Yes, it does happen some years. (Not very often but not never.) I can definitely think of people who chose e.g. Harvard, NYU, UCSC, and UCLA over MIT. They had all kinds of considerations and in all cases I know of, these people were happy with their choice (and I am sure they would have been happy at MIT, too. At that point you're choosing between two very good options!).
