  1. I'm deciding between washu and uc davis and i'm already ready to rip my hair out!! what about you!
  2. I'm deciding between washu and uc davis and i'm already ready to rip my hair out!! what about you!
  3. emailed the coordinators of programs I interviewed at more than a month ago like HELLO. IT'S ME. I was wondering if after all this time, you'd like to talk??????
  4. thought i was done with the waiting game... then schools pull out the 'we'll let you know in March' after interviews Anyone else in the same boat??
  5. this is sort of a weird question but has anyone ever emailed a PI you're really interested in at a program you've been rejected at just to like say you're still interested for the future? Is that a thing or is that like creepy and desperate?
  6. so real. i don't know why i thought it would be easier to do interviews while juggling class than taking time off work...
  7. First off, congratulations!! Second, I would definitely investigate funding since that can vary from program to program. And I would see the flexibility of the program, like could you still take neuroscience classes and work in the neuro labs you are interested in? IMO, I would take the invite and check out the program. People who work as neuroscientists get all sort of degree titles but that doesn't make them any less a neuroscientist. Considering the money you spent to apply to places and the prospect of taking another year to apply, do you personally find it worth it? Personally, I don't think so. If you end up liking the program and get to do the work you want while getting paid, I think you should go for it! I think it is fairly normal and totally worth at the very least checking it out. this is uc berkeley after all!!
  8. I also just got rejected from Stanford and I have to agree with you. Not necessarily that the GRE is easy, but that's a fair standard to use for grad schools to weed out students. When 300+ applicants apply, people are going to come with similar research experiences and pubs, and good rec letters. There's got to be some metric of how to weed people out at the beginning, and it makes sense that it's numbers like GRE and GPA. I think it'd be worse to use, let's say, number of publications, for that metric, or number of years of research experience, because that could be so circumstantial but everyone takes undergrad courses and everyone takes the GRE... It just makes sense Doesn't make anyone's rejection less disappointing but you're right, they can't accept everyone.
  9. I don't know if anyone else noticed it (it doesn't appear when you search neuroscience) but on the survey, someone reported that UCSD is sending out all invites by end of day tomorrow (1/12)!!!!
  10. I'm declining my Minnesota invite so hopefully more invites will go out! Also, did stanford say when their interview weekend is?
  11. HI. I understand that you are very excited about your interviews, who wouldn't be!, but there is no reason to be so inappropriate and rude on this forum. You are not the only who got these invitations and more so, you should be respectful to those who didn't, who worked just as hard as you. And as a thought exercise, consider what these programs would think of you if they saw these posts. Thanks
  12. yay! hope! sigh, guess I'll have to just sit and twiddle my thumbs until after new years!
  13. Hi everyone! I figure I should finally post and join in instead of just lurking! So here's my list: Interviews: Northwestern, UNC Chapel Hill, WashU, UAB (Alabama), UC Davis, UW Madison Still to hear from: Hopeful: U Minnesota (heard that they invite early jan), Stanford & UCSD (waiting til jan before losing hope). Vanderbilt (any info about if there's hope for me??) Hopeless: MIT (i've given up hope) Cheers and good luck to everyone in the new year!
