I'm on the reserve list for Euroculture. I emailed them to ask my ranking. I doubt I'll get in. There's probably dozens of people on the reserve list. :(

Hello, thank you for your previous response, and yes, do not lose hope. I was still waiting for them to contact me but couldn't help and have just sent an email to ask about my status after seeing your update. 500 applicants is just incredible. So I try to remain calm and have realistic expectations regarding the outcome :( best wishes for you!

  2. Euroculture, here. Has anyone heard anything yet? Early March is what they said about the results, though. And I am not sure if they normally interview the candidates before they make scholarship decisions. Anyone knows anything about the selection process?

  3. Hi all,

I applied to the Feminist Studies Dept. at the University of Minnesota. It was a long long wait after the application, indeed. My status has just turned into a "Decision Made". I take it as a rejection as noone has contacted me about anything until now. (I don't know if they usually get in touch with the acceptees before the official decisions, though.) Anyone here in the same boat? And, if any, congrats to all admits! It's a great program!

Good luck, @heddatron! Getting waitlisted is still a positive, and of course not everyone who gets in places is going to accept. Is Minnesota your first choice or is Mich? If Mich hasn't responded yet, you may hear from them in the affirmative before you find out from Minnesota that you don't have a spot. Or you may indeed be spoiled for choice and have to decide between two yesses! :)

Hello, The Interdisciplinarian! (I just can't tag your name and I don't know why). About an hour ago, I received an e-mail saying that I was waitlisted by American Culture at UMich. Of course, UMich is my first choice, and the e-mail seems to me really promising with a lot of details about funding I will receive if admitted, and indicates that my chances are quite high. They said things like "quite likely, distinctly possible" etc. Two waitlists so far. It feels like waiting will never end. :)

Thank you for your support :) Hope to hear great news from everyone! Best of luck!

  5. Hello everyone, I wish you the best with your applications!

Here's my situation: I got waitlisted by American Studies at U of Minnesota; and they told me that I was quite high on the waitlist. Actually, I take it a rather positive thing (Should I?). So, if someone accepted into the program but not wanting to participate reads my comment here, could they please give me some hope? :)

I also applied to UMich American Culture, and am still waiting for the decisions. Anyone else in the same boat?

    Thank you!

    Hi heddatron,

I learned of their decision in early February of this year. I think February is the typical time frame.

As for your area of research, I know that UMich is trying to expand their Arab & Muslim American studies program. We're actually bringing on a new faculty member next year who specializes in gender & the Middle East (I don't know who it will be, they're still in the search process but that is what they're looking for). I think your area of interest would be quite interesting to our department and would certainly fit in with the mission of AC here to expand the study of American Culture beyond the borders of the US. In other words, I definitely don't think that your area of interest would keep you out of the program due to lack of fit.

Also, UMich typically tries to get an entering class of 6-8. My cohort only has 2 students and because of that they may be looking to expand the size of the incoming cohort.

    Best of luck!

Hi kateosee, I really appreciate your detailed response. It is actually great to hear all these promising news about the department's growing interest in Muslim American studies!

    Thank you so much!

  7. Hey all! I've applied to Feminist Studies PhD program at the University of Minnesota. I really appreciate any information regarding the program. My application status is now "Awaiting Program Decision", and I wonder if you or someone you know has gotten any responses from the department about the admissions/decisions yet.

    Thank you!

Hey all! I went through this last year and am a PhD student at UMich. I don't see anyone applying there but if anyone has questions, happy to answer.

    Good luck everyone!

Hey kateosee, I'm applying to the Phd program in American Culture at UMich. I'm an international applicant (from Turkey), and I don't really know if I have a chance or not, but I wonder what the department's stance would be towards a doctoral research on Turkish immigration to the U.S. with a focus on transnational masculinities. And, do you have any ideas about when they make the decisions?

Thank you very much in advance.
