Thanks, that is encouraging! It's been frustrating since I've been so close to submitting a manuscript for about 6 months, but it's on seasonal data so my advisor keeps wanting to get "just one more data point." I know he's absolutely right but I've felt like it's a big hole in my applications. I'm glad that you've been successful anyway! And you're right, I have friends with publications, but they only contributed part of one figure... when I finally submit this I will be responsible for almost every figure, and most of the text.

See I have a 4.0 undergrad GPA but no publications, and I think that may keep me from getting it. I would much rather be in your position! I think you are much more competitive this year than I am.
-
It would have been. I might still do it, but I have some real statistics to run first.
-
I almost made a graph of the previous years' timing and ran the statistics, but I restrained myself...
-
I will not stay up. If its a no, id much rather deal with the disappointment on a good nights sleep.

The facebook page says it will be announced first week of April!

Their facebook page says first week of April.

My school will give me quiiiite a bit less than $34k... so thats a big incentive for me. it might be the difference between being slightly homeless and not lol But if you already have the prestige and funding, then there are programs you can apply to that are only open to GRFP fellows, such as the GROW program. But most importantly, it gives you freedom. You can almost do whatever research you want, regardless of your prof's funding. Many grants only fund a certain project, but GRFP funds you. I know people whose dissertation was totally changed because they could fly wherever and study anything.

Mine is still received.

I'm pretty sure I'm the first person from my undergrad institution to apply for the award...
-
Quite frankly, I don't think they will know. I believe different people are on the review panels each year. Even if they know, I don't think they would hold that against you. The money is to fund you as a scientist with great potential, not your research. For all they know, you could take the money and transfer to another school.

Just logged in again... weird. but yes, I think it's either Tuesday the 29th or Friday the 1st. Last year it looks like they got the maintenance notification 5 days prior, so perhaps we will see something on fastlane this weekend. :-)
-
I now check this page more often than I check my email...
-
Nope, I just logged in fine. But this could be a good sign!!! I saw in previous years that people had trouble logging in/using fastlane before results went up :-)
-
Lets dream big... if you get both, which will you take?
-
I did! I think for me it's a long shot though...
-
I think it is likely that at least one of your recommenders would point it out, yes?
-
haha just to make myself feel better :-) I have way over-analyzed this year's proposal and I have some ideas to make it better for next time.
-
Is anyone else planning how to handle the rejection? I'm writing my GRFP for next year. I think a nice solid draft will soften the blow.
-
Thanks :-) Just wanted to know what to expect. So basically if I see the email and want to put off knowing until the end of the day, it sounds like I can.
-
This may be really dumb... but does anyone know what the subject line of the acceptance or the rejection email will say? lol
-
Thanks! and I agree. Happy thought, anyway!
-
Where did you see that?
-
I am in the same boat! I am going to think long and hard about which will be my better shot... probably my second year? By then I will have more publications, hopefully. Also I will have had more time to develop my outreach programs. What do you all think?

yeah, I'm not sure there's much to be gained from calling... I think at this point I'm definitely not going to be officially interviewed (what biokat8 said is consistent with the timeline my POI gave me). If they're still interested they will keep me in consideration I guess. ***pure speculation*** I bet the people they officially invited are the ones they want to admit, but some of those people will turn them down, and then the department will think about admitting other people. It's pretty $$$ to fly people out, so they probably want to start with the applicants they're most interested in. Perhaps we will hear more after the interview dates on the 21? Best wishes to you!!!
