  1. I highly recommend Manhattan's 5 pounder. When I used Princeton and Kaplan I found them to be too easy, and in the end the actual test was indeed much more challenging than the typical practice sets they provide. I also reviewed the free material from ETS. I think other posters would agree with me that their sample tests are very close to the real thing. I also suggest you dont make the same mistake as me and only prepare one week before the exam (chronic procrastinator here)! Good luck to you!
  2. I had seven. I spread them out except for one person, who agreed to do all. In the end about 5 of my applications did not have complete LORS. One even had a "recommender has begun but not completed" status (after I sent several reminders).
  3. That aptly summarizes my sentiments! As a joke to my friends, I say I had a better chance of winning the $1.6 billion powerball than getting into any of my schools. Punchline is I did not even buy a lottery ticket
  4. I think like many interview questions, this is one of that has no "right" or "wrong" answer, except that it would be a good idea to keep the answer succinct, with a natural flow. I would frame an answer in the context of upbringing/background, educational/vocational experiences, and personality traits. Maybe I would take a minute to say where I am from and have lived, then a few minutes on what my passions are and where I would like be professionally/academically in the near future, and another few minutes on how my experiences have shaped the way I think and operate (in the relevant context of the position). The interviewer(s) will probably ask your further questions based on your answer.
  5. What department is it you are interested in? I'm not that familiar with transport but depending on your precise interests, you might want to see about applying to operations research, engineering, and perhaps even public policy.
  6. Congrats Panpsychist! Has anyone heard from Oxford?
  7. Go to your account settings and pick the signature tab.
  8. Hey good for you. There are winners and losers, and the lucky and unlucky in every race that we run in life. Win some lose some. Congratulations on your acceptance to WashU! Feel proud and be unapologetic!
