  1. For sure! http://graduateinstitute.ch/admittedwebinars
  2. Oh great! I saw they had the larger couples apartments and family apartments for CHF 2500, though that is a little too expensive for us right now. I suppose subletting a bedroom could offset some of the cost, but I'd rather not if possible. Have had roommates all throughout my undergrad, and am now used to the comfort of just living with my SO. I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for the CHF 1600-1700 couples apartment. It just seems so nice to be able to move into Picciotto and have it furnished and all and not have to go apartment hunting and furniture shopping the second you arrive. But in the mean time, I'll put in as many applications as possible. Do you know where else would be good places to apply for housing as a couple? Thank you so much!
  3. There is an "admitted students" webinar on Thursday specifically on the topic of career opportunities and internships. If you can, sign up for it and perhaps you can get some useful information there?
  4. Regular admissions is out! Very happy to say that both my SO (MDev) and I were accepted (MIA)! We were both refused for scholarships though, but I expected as much since our government provide pretty good deals on student loans and aid. This is such a relief! IHEID was our absolute top choice, and we were very nervous about both of us needing to get admitted. Now the hunt for housing begins! From the discussion here and IHEID's website, I see that academic results, scholarship application, and location when you were admitted is what is considered. I think we have a decent shot since we are currently living in Los Angeles and did not get any other financial assitance. Does anyone know if couples apartments are more difficult or easier to get?
  5. I know, even more waiting must be horrible. Perhaps try to search on grad cafe to figure out previous years waitlistings. I hope you get in! Both my SO (MDev) and I (MIA) were accepted, although no scholarships - but I expected as much since our government provide pretty good deals on student loans and aid.
  6. I'm sorry! But waitlist still means it's possible. I'm not too sure, but there's always people who turn down their spots for a variety of reasons. I know some people who were waitlisted for PhD programs, and they contacted the departments/school and expressed their continued interest in the program. This was for US schools though, and PhD programs, not sure if the protocol is different for MA's or European schools.
  7. That is so weird! I hope they'll realize it was an error (however that happened?). I wonder if they sort of "save" stuff that gets deleted, so that they can undo the deletion? That'd be awesome for exactly the reason you mentioned.
  8. Same lol I was in the midst of figuring out if I people were asked to submit high school/secondary school diploma when they applied
  9. Ookaay, so I was just writing in the IHEID Fall 2016 waiting it out thread, and it seems it completely disappeared? If it's just a temporary glitch, then admin is more than welcome to delete this new topic. Otherwise, here is a new topic for us to obsess over the next hours before results are sent out.
  10. I'm an undergrad at the type of university you are attending for grad school. Even from an undergrads POV, I fully agree with what you said. I attended two years of community college first in order to bring down costs, and then transferred to my current university. Even I feel disconnected from the majority of undergrads, because many of them really do act entitled. Also, I'm two years above my graduating class (international student who go to school longer in my country), so I think that contributes to it too. I have been fortunate enough to take PhD classes my during my last year, and that is where I've really seen the divide. There is quite a difference in the intellectual level of discussion in my PhD classes vs. my regular undergrad classes. So, to sum it up - I think these divides tend to be at many schools due to simply being at different levels in your education and personal development, but I also think that divide is further emphasized at expensive, private universities.
  11. Hi, I'm not an early bird applicant, but I am applying for the MIA program at IHEID. I'm pretty much done with my application, I just haven't submitted it yet. My boyfriend is also applying to IHED, for the MDev. program. IHEID is our absolute number one choice. I am worried however, that we both will not get in. It is already difficult enough to get in, but to make matters worse - our application profiles are fairly similar. We are from the same country, started studying at the same junior college in the US at the same time (which is where we met), and transferred to our current university (where we became a couple) at the same time. He is studying IR for his B.A., wheres I am studying Communication and Human Rights. We both served in the same student organizations in our junior college, and at our current university we both have quite a lot of experience with research (assistants and independent research), although in different areas and with different professors. Our backgrounds in our home country are more different, but that will not really be addressed in the application. I am really worried they will take a look at our applications, and if they deem us good enough to attend, still only accept one us, due to similarity and they seek as much diversity as possible. We are both not wanting to do long-distance, it is just not an option. I was wondering if anyone had some advice, or know of anyone else who has been in a similar situation.
