Well, this is very possible, it depends on how nice your PI is. One of my friend was the second author of a Cell paper, and all she did was one western blotting. -
MIT SOP? 500 words limit
deundertaker replied to lkh5650's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
I applied to the MIT bio program, But I dont have this 500 word limit -
Neurosci is always the hard one to get in and the department size is usually small. I guess it is much more selective than bio/biomed programs. I heard the same thing from the program director, Columbia only admitted 20 PhD students last year. May be it is a good idea to get into the bio program and then select PI in the neurosci area as your supervisor.
-
lol, they only thing that showed to be received by Columbia was my application fee. All they care about is money.
-
It may take another day to receive the app ID. I have actually asked the stuff to check my material and they told me they couldn't because this year there is an usually high number of applicants. I wonder how many students are applying to this program.
-
after you submit your app, the department will sent you an app ID. You can check your status online https://admissions.columbia.edu/ with this ID and your birthday
-
Hey solorenegade have you check your application status? I have sent all my materials to Columbia 2 months ago and it still shows not yet received/processed. Do you have the same status?

I have the same situation, because I used to work for a biotech company. I am pretty sure that you can use several sentences to describe the general Idea, such as constructing shuttle vectors for antibiotic engineering. do not mention any specific terms.
-
I am applying to UPenn too. So it should be like a projection description/summery: overall goal of this project, the significance of this project, critical tech and experimental design, important research results and their implications for related research. You do not have to present a lot of experimental data.

I have no idea at all, it is pretty random. every year the committee members change. my interpretation of 500 word would be fit your PS into one page single space. GL
