  1. Title says it all. I'm a Canadian and am here under the F-1 heading that limits me to 20hrs/wk. I would like to either work full-time for financial reasons during the summer, or I would like to be able to work full-time to further my career. Do you have any knowledge that in any way relates to this subject? If I can only work 20hrs/wk it might be cheaper to fly back to Canada for the summer months. That's annoying--I'd like to not have to constantly shift my life back and forth.
  2. I've heard that due to its size, the program definitely requires self-sufficiency to a greater degree than some smaller programs. I've never been, and would be interested to know these things myself.
  3. I was waitlisted at Pitt for the communication program. It's my top choice because it integrates my diverse background (science, bioethics, gender, rhetoric) better than anything else I've encountered. Does anyone know the likelihood of getting in off of that waitlist? I've emailed, but haven't heard back about my placement on the waitlist yet.
  4. You have some serious loans to repay, right? The most sensible thing to do is accept #4 and defer for a year. Additionally, I'd make a very tight budget with the help of a friend I trust to keep my best interests in mind, and live the most frugal year of my life. After this frugal year, I'd have knocked off a considerable chunk of my debt (and therefore lowered my stress levels). Then I'd find myself making the best use of the resources ($ and time) I had available, and start graduate studies with little stress, knowing I made the most responsible decisions I was able to make with what was available to me at the time while still going after my dreams. You're still living according to your priorities and taking risks with your life, but you're reducing the risks and stress as best you can (which makes for a more pleasant and productive grad experience).
  5. Any application updates yet for those who applied? Anyone with information they'd like to share about the program?
  6. I've been accepted into my 2nd choice in an American institution, and asked to submit my I-20 financial guarantee, etc. (which will clear). I'm still waiting to hear from my top choice--I sent an email asking when a decision would be made, but received no feedback. Should I begin the government papers for my second choice so I can register for courses, or do I need to wait it out and commit to a program first? Any reflections about the CDN to USA process would be appreciated.
  7. Thanks. Best of luck to your application. BTW, they made no mention of funding, so if I get accepted elsewhere with a full package and don't get something from ASU, there will be a spot opening up.
  8. I was accepted by email on Feb 19th--I'm sure they have rounds of acceptances, though. They have a big program.
  9. I've been accepted for rhet & comp (within the English dept)--I presume you are all lit applicants? I'd love to hear decision-relevant insider info if someone has it!
