  1. I received an acceptance email from the graduate school at Purdue today. There wasn't any reference to funding, so hopefully that will come soon. I'm excited to have a second option!
  2. It's taking everything I've got not to phone my remaining programs on a daily basis. Honestly, a month ago, I would have thought I'd be done with this process by now. Instead, four schools still. I know it will be worth it if I receive another acceptance or two, but waiting is so emotionally draining. Anyone else waiting on Bowling Green or Utah? I'm also waiting on Purdue, and have just seen the one notice. Buffalo is the only place I've had the courage to contact, since I've had a number of nice exchanges with their administrative assistant. I keep telling myself that I'll hear "this week," but I've been saying that for some time now. Maybe tomorrow...fingers crossed
  3. Thanks, Kate! I appreciate the info and the sentiment. Buffalo and Bowling Green are my top two picks, so I'm hoping one delivers with good news, though funding is definitely necessary. Congrats on Northeastern and Ohio State; I've heard good things about OSU's program. -Kate
  4. Hey Kate, Sorry to hear that. Did you receive communication from the department? Still no news on my end from Buffalo. I figured that meant rejection, but their admin assures me the committee is still meeting and all final decisions are not out. Don't know what to think at this point...
  5. Hi All, I don't know if anyone else applied to the American Studies program at Utah (it's out of their English department), but I saw an update on the Lit pages that acceptance news won't go out until next week at the earliest -- sounds like the poster spoke directly to the grad chair. Just fyi...
  6. Thank you so much for this update! I was trying to work up the nerve to call. My boyfriend applied to the English Lit PhD and I applied to American Studies (also out of English), so I've been anxious for updates. At least I know that news, if positive, is still a good week away. Thanks!
  7. Hey StlLiz - Have you heard anything from the department at Kansas? I emailed almost two weeks ago with questions about funding, admitted student weekend, and contacting current grads. I haven't heard anything. It looks like you're probably headed in another direction, but curious if you had any news. Thanks!
  8. Finally got a decision from MN. It was a rejection, but I expected as much at this point. I did not get a prompt to check the web site; it's just something I've been doing obsessively for weeks now Congrats to anyone who received better news.
  9. I noticed that someone added a "wait list via postal service" notification to the results board today. If you're reading this, had you heard this news prior to receiving the letter? My boyfriend applied to the English department at Buffalo, but hasn't heard anything. We're trying to get into different programs at the same schools, so I'm checking out the English boards as well, since he refuses to look at this site (which is probably smart!). Thanks to anyone with news...
  10. WOW. That sucks, and I don't think there is any other way to convey that. Sorry you got pulled into that mess. It absolutely seems like they were recruiting you. I would be frustrated and angry, and really, really wishing I had those application fees back. On a brighter note, you've got acceptance letters from great programs, so hopefully you can focus on that!
  11. Ha! I'm starting to feel that way about a few of my programs, though maybe for a million...
  12. Congrats on Buffalo! I fully appreciate the highs/lows. It's nice knowing you're in somewhere, but always disappointing to receive a rejection (or promise of one) when it seemed like good news was possible, if not likely!
  13. I've got to get away from this site and my computer; I'm going crazy! I just saw that an acceptance for Buffalo went up on the results board. I didn't get an email and my status hasn't changed...sigh. I want to be hopeful, but it's certainly hard.
  14. Sorry to hear that. I saw the influx of posts on the results board. 165 for seven spots -- those are tough numbers. I definitely feel for you. This is my second round; there were definitely rejections I received last time that left me pretty devastated. Here's to hoping for good news from the next school.
  15. Thanks for reporting back. I figured that was coming, seeing as we're half way through February.
  16. I noticed a Purdue update as well. My status hasn't flipped on MN or Purdue. Purdue is low on the list, but I'd still really like to know (and have options!).
  17. I saw a wait list notification for Minnesota on the results board. I haven't heard anything from the program yet, which probably does not bode well, especially since it's weeks later than they notified last year. Anyone else hearing anything? This board is awfully quiet!
  18. I applied for the PhD. I received an email telling me to login an check my status. Ah well, can't win them all Good luck with Austin. I know they have limited funding, but what a great program!
  19. Heard from UT, Austin tonight. I got rejected. I thought this program was a pretty good fit, so I'm a bit bummed. Ah well, glad to have an acceptance in hand...this one doesn't sting so much. Good luck to everyone else who applied!
  20. Congrats! I was wondering that as well. I looked on the department web site, and it seems that they provide 2 or 3 years of funding at base level. I imagine we'll hear about funding and an admitted student weekend sometime this week from the DGS. I'm thrilled with the acceptance, but I don't really consider it a true offer until funding is attached. So, we'll see if Lawrence is my ultimate destination or not. Congrats, again! Which programs are high on your list?
  21. Kansas is a go! Feeling better about EVERYTHING
  22. I keep looking at the results forum, and it feels like I'm the only person who applied to any graduate program that hasn't received a single decision. I know that's not true, but it sure feels that way!
  23. Now I'm on pins and needles. Haven't heard from anyone yet. I did contact the grad admin at Buffalo to see if they had a projected deadline for issuing decisions. She said she wasn't sure when results would be sent. Hate waiting...
