  1. Did anyone apply to, attend, or is attending The University of Wisconsin Public Health program? I'm curious about thoughts, from those who maybe applied and attended/didn't, those there, those who graduated. Any information, especially your experiences, would be great. I'm considering applying to it, seems like a great program (global health cert, great electives, good place to live, good name recognition). But if I'm wrong--please, someone tell me. ALSO, anyone who attended; how hard was getting an assistantship position? Advice for someone applying?
  2. Has anyone considered, applied, gotten into or gone to any international MPHs? More so, International Mscs that are global health focused? I'm looking at specifically LSEs Global Health MSc and wondering if anyone knows how its viewed in the job market compared to an MPH. Other MScs, if you have experience of those, are good too.
  3. This might be a moot question but I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice (possibly someone interested in the same type of work, or people who did/are curious in a global health or health communications focus). I'm crafting my application for my mph (it's still a while off, won't be applying till 2017), communicating with a few people in the field, crafting my Statement for multiple drafts now and I'm come across a career hurdle. Long story short, I know what I want to do. My ideal job would be a press secretary (especially in charge/with a focus in new media) for NGOs. I'm happy with being a health communications specialist, a medical writer, or any field that combines my undergrad degree (communications with a new media focus), my experience running media for non-profits, and my passions for public health (but running the press for an NGO, or just a branch of it) would be the dream. But I'm not sure what I should get my MPH in. I want to work for a international NGO, or even just an international health based organization abroad, so my default thoughts were focusing on global health. But the more research I do, people with a similiar job have a health communications mph, or a communications masters. I also know in a lot of programs I can use my electives for communications (to have a 'minor' persay,in communications) or get a communications certificate---or even a global health certificate. So my question is, is there really a better choice in focus? Or is it 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other? Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!
  4. Hi all, This might be a litttle repetitive but I tried to read all relevant topics before posting this so hopefully it's not. I need a little advice. I'm a student who is looking to get an MPH (in some cases it's just an MS). I'm looking to get a degree in Global Health or Health Communications. That just might help paint a small picture. The other stuff is probably more important. In college I wasn't the best student and didn't take my education seriously. So I took 2 years off, worked, and then returned (At a different school). I was able to graduate successfully. Successfully being I took 70 credits, the remainder, at my new school and graduated with a 4.0. For context, my first schools gpa, the first 50 or so credits (not all transferred), was a 1.7 Obviously I missed this cycle for most schools and that's okay, I'm more curious does anyone have any advice to boost my chances? I know SOPHAS will combine my GPA and yes, my last 60 (which i know some schools pay attention to move heavily) are a solid 4.0, but my combined gpa is low. around a 2.8 or something (i think it's actually a 2.7 when things break down). That's below the 3.0 cut off so I'm not sure if it's even worth applying? For some other information Applying for: 80% Health Comms programs, 20% Global Health URM (AA LGBTQ Male) Major: Ba Communications (Focus on New Media) UG GPA :1st school 1.7, 2nd school 4.0 MAJOR GPA: 4.0 LAST 60 credits 4.0 GRE: V 170, Q 168, W: 4.5 Strong professional LORs, work in political communications Plethora of volunteer experience Americorps Member 2 published short stories (i've heard mixed reviews if that helps) Any advice would be great. I didn't list the schools I'm considering but if that matters, I can. I was thinking of volunteering once a week for 5 hours a week over the next year at something health related?
