i think it was probably email. but it pisses me off cause i emailed the director of doctoral studies on TUESDAY and she told me " we are in the process of finalizing admissions and regrets. Letters to all applicants will be sent out only in a week or two." she should've just said all accepted people had been notified. argh.

I called stony brook. They said acceptance letters went out last Friday. Sigh. If anybody got those can you please claim them?
-
i'm also waiting on BC so here's hoping for us both! but that person was nominated for a special university fellowship so that may explain it as well.

MAPH allows you to take classes in any department in u Chicago. You can therefore specialize, like I did, in philosophy by taking all classes marked "PHIL" and get a faculty mentor from the philosophy department for your thesis. it is my impression/experience from their placement record that phd programs look at that as they would a philosophy specific 2 year masters. It is true there are disadvantages-- no funding, no chance to teach-- but also great advantages. It's a balancing act and everybody should decide for jem selves. Please stop shit talking MAPH when you don't really know what it's about and how it works, everybody. There are plenty of threads on grad cafe already hating on MAPH and I don't go into them and discuss MAPH, however this isn't one of those threads so I'd appreciate the lowering of my MA not to go on here. Plenty of places refer to their masters. You all would not feel great if somebody was devaluing yours. Thanks.

While it's true that MAPH is not funded, it is not the case that it isn't a good preparation for a phd in philosophy. It's actually great prep for phd and graduate work.

They don't refer everybody to MAPH and a reference doesn't mean you're accepted

thanks! i applied to Fordham (rejected), Stony Brook, New School, CUNY, McGill, Western Ontario CSTC, Boston College and Boston Uni.
-
!!!! Congrats to you both!
-
Thanks! I'm sure you're right-- at least, my programs should start notifying in the next couple of weeks so i'll know! I hope to be in that 2 acceptances boat with you though. I'll paddle us to doctorate land.
-
Congrats! You have options!! i hope to someday hear something, anything, about any of the programs i'm applying to. Stewing...

In context, this is the most sarcastic dance ever. ha. *I take it back, the context was genuine, the intention was murdery.

Congratulations!!

From what i surmise, it depends on the school and where they are in the admissions process. If they are already sending out waitlists and/or rejections, then you can reasonably assume you are not on their list for this year. Some schools send acceptances out in waves. If some acceptances from a school you were waiting for just came out yesterday, for example, it's still possible more will come out today, or, depending on the school, even a week or two from now. i'm in the same boat waiting, just hang tight!
-
No that's really useful actually, thanks! It's been my observation that unis send acceptances out early for extra fellowships and it's likely more on are their way for regular acceptances. congratulations, as well!

has ANYBODY else heard anything from Stony Brook? only three known acceptances so far, and those were all Jan 23rd. They usually take more than that. Is somebody holding out? If you haven't heard yet, historically that seems to be bad news...
-
Did they letter say anything about special extra fellowships, funding, or how many others might be accepted?
-
i think no professor is going on gradcafe, and if some admins are they aren't digging this deeply into it. If anybody is still deliberating, they're doing it based on your application/writing sample. I don't think you have anything to worry about! Be happy for your acceptances and relax

I solicited an email from Boston college about when people might hear back and I got this reply: "All admissions letters will be sent out before April 15, 2016. The committee is in the process of reviewing the files at the present time." So april is is obviously for rejected and Waitlisted people but it sounds like they're still deciding? Otherwise I think in my case at least, if I'd already been rejected, she might have told me. Or she didn't look it up and just told me the boilerplate response. Hope this helps

Wait which school did you get an email from?
-
Fordham i'll add to that list.
-
snail mail is not predictable!
-
yeah i just checked mine and that's what it says as well. many places will notify you if something is missing, or not let you submit if there is something else they need. i wouldn't worry about it.

Congratulations! Gonna frantically check my mail now.
