  1. Thanks for your input @Shay825 . It's appreciated.
  2. Thank you, I appreciate your input. @goofylemon
  3. Hi all! I am curious how folks would rank the following three schools: Boston College, Boston University, and Northeastern. Obviously it depends on fit and research interests, but I am curious to know what your opinions are. How would you rank these schools according to strength and prestige? Obviously I could look at US News ranks and all that, but I am curious to know what YOU all think. Chime in if you can. Thanks!
  4. @nowayjose Yeh they were. 2 seemed consecutive. Then just saw the third. @goofylemon might be on to something.
  5. who feels like calling Harvard? LOL
  6. Harvard admits coming in now . . .
  7. BROWN INFO: Just called Brown's Student Affairs Coordinator. She told me that some offers had been made but they still have a list that needs to be approved by the Graduate School. So therefore, not all have gone out. It seems like they are sending them out as they are approved by the Graduate School. So just wanted to fill you all in on what I was told. There is still hope everyone!!!!
  8. @Shay825 @gingin6789 I actually applied to Brandeis last year and was wait listed. Initially I was bummed, but when the DOGS told me they were only able to admit 4 – I felt much better. I reapplied this year hoping for a different outcome. But I know both of you are fantastic candidates and shouldn't have any issues being admitted!!! I will say that Brandeis isn't the BEST fit, but I would have to consider if admitted. Hope we hear some news soon!
  9. @Shay825 I wouldn't sweat it. It seems like they haven't contacted those who've been accepted yet (I am only going off the results board). So there is still a good chance! Don't lose hope! Also, have you called the dept. to check on the status of your GRE scores? I am pretty sure most schools get them electronically, so even though they say "it takes blah blah blah," often the have it there. They just need to look into their system. I am sure you will be receiving positive news soon!
  10. Thanks @gingin6789 ! I do too. Seems like there may be a good chance the way the email was worded. Was even given info on what the typical offer looks like. So I will remain hopeful! Appreciate the support!
  11. Congrats @goofylemon ! That is definitely a great sign. I too am waiting to hear from Yale. I was wait listed last year, but to be honest that means nothing. It is a long shot, but I am hopeful! Anyone apply to their a combined PhD at Yale? I applied to the combined African-American Studies & Sociology, PhD.
  12. Congrats on the NC State acceptance @gingin6789 ! Congrats to any other I may have missed as well!
  13. Hi @Shay825 ! Thank you – but I wouldn't stress it. It was a pretty generic email and it does seem like depending on your area of interest, you will receive an email from a person in that cluster that is on the AdComm. I would imagine that these emails are definitely sent out at all different times/days. I know you will be fine! You got this!
  14. -- Received an email from Northeastern regarding a phone interview with a Professor this week (guess it is part of their decision making process). Only should be 15-20 minutes. Those who have had these kinds of conversations before -- What should I expect? Thanks in advance.
  15. Oh wow! haha! Thanks for the tip!
  16. What do you mean by "I really got my GRE/GPA wrong in the Brown posting"? How do you see more details of each result posting? Such as GRE and GPA of the person? Or can you even do that?
  17. Hey @goofylemon was it you that just posted the Brown acceptance on the results page?
  18. HAHA @mm3733 .... I know right lol
  19. Thank you for sharing @DaisyGamble. I share many of those same characteristics. And yes the GRE was a miserable experience. I am happy for all of those who've gotten accepted, both with high and low GRE scores. CONGRATS!
  20. @XXXYYYZZZ With the Ether! (Nas reference for those unfamiliar). There are always reasons for not performing well on standardized tests. I am one of those people as well. I prepared extensively for the GRE and still did very mediocre. But the rest of my record will speak for itself. A 4 hour exam is not indicative of my ability as a sociologist. My entire academic record, ability to write (via personal statement and writing sample) and strong letters of rec will tell you MUCH MORE about my ability to succeed in a program than a 4 hour exam. Now, I am not saying that those who do perform well on GRE's don't matter (obviously not true), but everything really does have to be treated on a case by case basis.
  21. Wonder if I we will hear anything from our schools today? Thoughts? @Shay825 Very jealous of @goofylemon . Pretty awesome to hear so early from a school like Brown. Congrats again!
  22. Shay let me know if they give you any juicy details lol
  23. Good to know! Looking at your GRE scores I can see why they got back to you so early. I have know my POI for over a year, but they probably need to make a bigger case for me haha
