  1. Hi, I got offers from the University of Washington (PhD in Asian Languages & Literature) and the University of Hawaii at Manoa (PhD in East Asian Languages and Literatures), and I am struggling between the two. Hawaii has offered me partial funding, and I am waiting for funding information from Washington. My research area of interest is modern/contemporary Chinese literature and East Asian cinema. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  3. Sounds great! Hawaii have offered me partial funding, and I am waiting for more information from the school, as well as Washington and Oregon. I look forward to more good news. Has everyone settled down?
  4. It's April! How's everybody doing?
  5. Hi, bushiwo. If funding is an issue, I would take the funding. If not, I would make my decision based on my research interests. May I ask what your areas of concentration/specializations are? I think most important is getting into a program with at least two (three would be better) professors who are specialized in your areas, who are most interested in your main concerns, and who take you very seriously.
  6. Hi, machacreampuff. I would choose UCLA, given that they have a stronger (if not the strongest) Film/TV/Media faculty than UCSB does per my knowledge. Have the professors at UCSB or UCLA contacted you? I would choose the school which has the more (most) encouraging professor(s). I just saw one UMich admit. Does anyone want to claim it?
  7. Thanks a lot, bushiwo! FYI, UCSB said that they are currently finalizing their decisions and they are hoping the process would be complete before the end of March. Minnesota said that we can expect a decision by late March or early April and they will do their best to inform us of their decision as soon as they are able. I emailed USC and received the same reply. I am still waiting to hear from UMich and Oregon. I have been accepted to Washington (PhD), Hawaii (PhD), and Ohio State (MA). My biggest concern is funding. However, I haven't heard much about it. If anyone could tell me anything about what funding is like at these schools, I would greatly appreciate it. How is everyone doing? Have you received funding (fellowship, tuition waiver, living stipend, GA/TA/RA, etc)? What is your decision?
  8. Thanks a lot, @fencergirl and @Jovant. I will email USC. Has anyone heard from UMich, Minnesota, Oregon, or Arizona? Any input would be appreciated!
  9. Thanks a lot, kyjin. This is very helpful. I saw someone posted on the results page: “The Graduate Admission Committee has carefully reviewed the applications and a short list of candidates has been prepared for further consideration. I regret to inform you that you have not been short-listed. Although we are yet to have finalized the admission process, we thought we should inform you of the status of your application to assist you with your own planning.” However, I did not receive the email about shortlist, and I did not receive the email about recruitment event, either. Does this mean that I am on the waitlist?
  10. fencergirl, many thanks for the input! I hope so. Do they mention anything about funding in the email? It is very kind of you to let the school know that you are not going to attend. I believe that is very helpful for people on the waitlist. Best wishes to you at Northwestern! BTW, does anyone know what funding is like at Washington or Hawaii?
  11. Yes, congrats, fencergirl! Does anyone know if Oregon and USC release PhD and MA results at the same time or PhD decisions first and then MA decisions?
  12. Anyone want to claim the Oregon and USC acceptances? I also applied to their PhD programs, but I have not heard anything yet.
  13. Anybody have any news? Please share with us! I am still waiting on info about funding.
  14. Many, many thanks, withoutdoing. This is very, very helpful. Also, I saw some new posts on the results page. Congrats to the new admits!
  15. Thanks! Yes, I am strongly considering the offer. I really do like the program, and I received a highly encouraging email from a POI. However, I am waiting on info about funding. What is it like to live in Hawaii. Also, I just got admission e-mail from Ohio State DEALL MA program. No word on funding yet. Does anyone know what funding is like at OSU? I hope you get good news soon!
  16. Congratulations on all the great news. Very excited! I have been accepted to the University of Washington and the University of Hawaii. Super happy :)))) I hope more good news will continue to hit the members of this thread.
  17. Congrats, @mendoksai! Berkeley is awesome. (@fencergirl is right,@StrumundDrang, we need to hang in there.) I saw 1 Washington admit. Anyone wants to claim that?
  18. Congrats, fencergirl! (I am still waiting. And it is killing me.) Anyone want to claim those acceptances or share their interview experience?
  19. Yes, “UMichigan Ann Arbor Chinese (East Asian Languages And Literature), PhD (F16) Interview via E-mail on 18 Jan 2016 U 21 Jan 2016”
  20. @StrumundDrang @kyjin Thanks so much for sharing the info. it’s super helpful. I saw 1 UCSB Interview, 1 UMich Interview, and 1 Columbia Interview on the result board. Anyone want to claim them and/or share any details?
  21. Has anyone heard from UCSB, UMich, Ohio State, Columbia, USC, Minnesota, or UT Austin? I applied to these schools and haven't heard anything. :?
