Scott Nelson is amazing. And he has a lot of time for students.

This is, instead of "what are your resources" something like "do you have good access to databases"? You could ask about shared resources with nearby universities such as Georgia State and Emory. I'm sure there is some kind of southern consortium so you could ask about access to other campuses' resources (my school has it with other schools here).

I don't know much about the university proper, but I've been told that they're investing a lot of money into becoming a better, more well-recognized history program. It seems like a great place to go if you're into Southern history.
Thanks everyone!
It does appear the UGA is investing heavily in Southern History.
I am curious what the etiquette is for 'cold-calling' a current grad student? Or should I just request the name of a graduate student from the director of graduate studies and take there advice with a heavy dose of salt? Perhaps some current grad students or people who have done this can comment. I would, of course, like the most honest assesemnt possible and I am I little nervous the student chosen by the DGS will make a 'sales pitch'

Hi all,
I am curious if any of you have experience or opinions about the University of Georgia? I am an admitted (with full funding) international student studying 19th Century Southern History and the faculty and resources look great but I have no peers who have attended to consult.
Thanks

Out of the three, I would say Wisconsin-Madison is your best bet. I spent a year of my undergrad there as an exchange student and got to see first hand the quality of the Department. I was in Gender & Women's Studies so some of our best classes shared the same professors. Also, I would say the campus community in Madison, the student movement and everything going on with anti-racist activism is also a pretty good reason to go there. We are talking about the university made famous by having a "The Problem of Whiteness" class. Their professors are the best of the best, very forward and radical thinking. I think you'll have a great time learning and becoming if you do decide to go to Madison.
Thank you very much for your thoughts!! I appreciate it

Hi everyone,
I am applying to MA programs to study transnational African American culture. I have been accepted to Indiana, The Ohio State University, Wisconsin-Madison and waiting on UCLA. If anyone has any information on these programs I would appreciate it!
Also, Is it fair to assume that UCLA has already sent out all there acceptances?
Thanks

Hi all,
I am also a little late to the website this season. I am wondering if anyone has experience or information on the Department of Afro-American Studies at Wisconsin-Madison? The faculty looks great and I have heard lots of positives about the city and school but I have not seen or heard much about the department itself.
Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping that the lack of chatter on the results board for UT-Austin indicated some invitations were yet to go out.

Hi all,
Short time lurker here I just discovered this site today while 'googling' admissions results and I am trying to catch up.
I see some Minnesota admits on the results page and on this discussion group. Does Minnesota stagger their admissions or are we to assume all the invitations have gone out?
Also, there was mention of UT Austin having completed a shortlist for a recruitment weekend. Does anyone know if all of those invitations have been sent.
Thanks
