  1. Me again: I wouldn't take this one personally, I have heard that FSU rarely offers funding to first year students.
  2. Sup, y'all. Figured I would pop in to give a heads up on funding at USF (I am from the 2016 cohort). As of right now, there are three slots with funding available, which is why there have been no funding decisions yet. That said, they were able to find funding for some of my cohort that weren't offered at the initial acceptance. So don't give up hope yet!
  3. Hey there! I hope everyone had a successful first semester!
  4. First off, congrats to everyone who graduated this month! We survived! Anyone else started their apartment hunting? I think I have a lock in on a place. I'll find out for sure tomorrow. The joys of pet rent... I'll be moving to Florida in early August. Also, @KnowVac, one of my cohort is supposed to be joining you at IU. All in all, congratulations to everyone, and I hope to meet many of you at ASC in November!
  5. I'm also in final thesis prep mode. I defend on April 1st. I'm also finishing course work due on the 1st & a 2,000-3,000 word encyclopedia entry due on the 31st.... why do I do these things to myself?
  6. @ThesisTerror724- Congrats! I know you were getting frustrated by their lack of movement. My USF visit is almost at an end, and some new information is making me lean in that direction- specifically that the department hired 2 new professors whose areas of research line up with my own nicely. It doesn't help that I adore the fact that they also require 3 hours of professional development courses so you can learn the nitty gritty things like how to build a syllabus, write a grant proposal, and look for a job. I'm planning on teaching, and those skills are priceless. Yeah, MSU is going to have to make a strong case.
  7. @ThesisTerror724 @Kylie_ ASU just posted on the website. I was not accepted, but that just made my decision process easier. Cest la vie!
  8. @ThesisTerror724 I don't blame you. I'm going to enjoy my visit to USF this weekend, and not worry about ASU for the time being.
  9. @ThesisTerror724 @Kylie_ That spam mail from ASU tonight was not fair.
  10. @Partinrn Congrats! I'm definitely up for exchanging info.
  11. @ThesisTerror724 The good news is that we know we are both waiting. Imagine not knowing anyone else's status...
  12. Same! I keep refreshing the status page...
  13. @liesandfish Congrats! I am so happy for you! It has to be a relief to have made the final decision.
  14. Thanks. My stress level just spiked a minute ago because I saw I had an email from ASU. It was a generic "Apply to ASU" advertisement email from their graduate admissions office. ...back to working on my thesis...
  15. Well, I heard from UMSL. I was waitlisted, which I honestly expected. I responded back, requesting the removal of my application from consideration since I already have 2 offers. It doesn't seem fair or polite to have my name on a list for a position I do not need. Just waiting on ASU and Leeds now
  16. Thank you for the clarification. I can see where this is a difficult decision. Now my questions are, how much time do you need to complete your own research? Will working with the responsibilities of a TA/RA position be detrimental to that research? Will having a fellowship be a better option? Is there a particular professor that you want to work with at either location? Just more things to consider. Long story short, do what is best for your career.
  17. Okay, please ignore the previous post, my text editor was not cooperating. I agree with @Partinrn to a point - it is the "what" not the "where". From what it sounds like, though, the less pretigious program @liesandfish mentioned is not offering a RA/TA position in conjunction with the funding. This would worry me because RA/TA positions help develop relationships between professors and the student as well as offer valuable experience. I'd still choose the top school in this case just for the working experience.
  18. Welcome. The only other person I am aware of that applied to Louisville was @cagataykoc, but I haven't seen a post from them since November.
  19. Yes, USF and MSU have both made reasonable funding offers, so I would like to get a better idea each of the programs faculty and cohort before I make any decisions. Maybe I will see you there!
  20. I have always taken it as a preview is when you have already been accepted, and the school is trying to get you to choose their program. An interview is when they still haven't decided on you, and the interview process will help decide the acceptance and funding. I may be wrong, but there you go. Speaking of, is anyone else attending USF's graduate recruitment weekend on the 4th & 5th?
  21. From what I can tell from the results of previous years, ASU is notorious for posting acceptances late, usually around the 25th of Feb to the 4th of March. I'm hoping that we hear from them earlier than that- ten more days is almost too much for me! Good luck!
  22. Congrats! If you don't mind, when did you hear from UMSL? And did they have a funding decision with the acceptance? I haven't heard anything yet.
