Hey there! Long time time lurker, first time poster. Congrats to eveybody who has received good news to everyone else, keep perservering! I have some interviews coming up and I am incredibly nervous about them. Just for context, they are at Duke, UT Austin, amd UCLA (it's going to be a busy couple of weeks haha). I am totaly not sure what to expect. What are the odds of getting rejected after interviewing? My greatest fear, which I am told is somewhat unreasonable, is some sort of pop translation quiz. I am an archaeologist and sight reading still terrifies me. I dont even know what to wear! I have a suit, but that seemes like it might be overkill... Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

Congrats on all your good news and good luck in the interviews!

also just wondering, is your UCLA interview for Archaeology or Classics?

One of my cohort also received the rejection this morning. That program is just insanely competitive. Don't lose faith. Hope you will hear good news soon.

Thanks! I already have had some good news, so I'm not too bothered. But a rejection is always a little disappointing

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what did you do to strengthen your application over the year before your second app? I'm just curious because if I don't get in to places I want to think about options for fortifying my app, etc. If you don't get in will get send you an email with tips? Thanks!

    Hey,

Feel free to message me (this site does that, right?) for my email if you'd like an in-depth description of what I did. However, here are the big takeaways:

    - I did not have German and I took an intensive reading academic German course.

    - I started volunteering at a museum.

    - I totally re-edited my writing sample and my statements.

However, I think German was the biggest one. My recommenders all told me to take German after I didn't get in.

  5. I'm the IPCAA interview. It was an invitation to the weekend on campus, sent over email by the prof I was in touch with last year (when I was unsuccessful in the process). Very excited and nervous! So happy to make it even this far this year.

    Hey there-

I am also classical art, however I did not apply to Duke as no one there met my interests. I do know however from my friend that is in the middle of her PhD there for classical arch that they are having their prospective student weekend next week.

Gotcha. Disappointing, but I figured. Thanks!

  7. Hey all, I have an MA in Classical Archaeology but have only been waitlisted and rejected by schools up to this point. Waiting on 3 more schools, but you know, starting to think about Plan B. Part of me wonders if my languages weren't strong enough in my application. I only took one greek class last year in favor of more archaeology and history classes. I'm wondering if I should get a post bacc or half of a post bacc. Does that sound like a bad plan? Or a ludicrously expensive one?

  8. Hey all,

I'm a new member, long time lurker. I'm a classical archaeologist who applied to Duke's Visual Studies/Art History Program. Anyone else applied there? Heard anything? I see one person posted an email on the results page but didn't add any details...

    Thanks!
