  1. I have spent less than six months, about three months in total for preliminary field research. The Fulbright was an application to fund doctoral research within Italy, which is why I'm not too upset (since I have applied to other grants; plus having applied to Fulbrights in the past, as well as Marshall and other grants when I have been in undergraduate, I am well versed to rejection).
  2. I want to know the same. Because, I want to know if it is because of my profile, or because of my project. Cosi e la vita...
  3. I'm curious if anyone applied for the Casten Family Foundation Fulbright Grant in Italy?
  4. Not a big deal. I'm in a doctoral program with funding. And this was one of five grants I applied for funding my dissertation research. I did something risky in applying to the Fulbright anyways. Just thought people would like to know emails are going out.
  5. I just got an email from the commission to inform me I was not recommended. Oh well. Just so you all know, it is titled "Your Fulbright Application."
  6. I think they mean University of Chicago. Which I've also seen abbreviated UChicago.
  7. I decided to reply to my post rather than edit, since I finally remembered to do this, and so people can hopefully see that I updated it. I asked the head of the Sociocultural Wing about applications: they have already finished their applications, and they finished them way back at the beginning of February. I was supposed to be contacted in the middle of February, but the faculty member contacted me much later, and so everyone in the department thought I was giving them the cold shoulder. Sorry guys, but if you haven't heard from Davis, you were most likely not accepted.
  8. I'll ask tomorrow hopefully, and I"ll edit this post with information, should I get any.
  9. However, being as lazy as I am, I didn't post any results to the results database. I just posted on here. The department is really lackadaisical in responding to emails, which is kinda dismaying. I got a phone call the day after I got accepted from Davis, from a faculty member who told me they can't offer any funding right now, but nominated me for some university wide fellowship.
  10. is ebullient.

  11. Yeah, same here, but I got offered 2/3rds tuition. I just got accepted from Rice, with funding (not sure how much, individual said I would get mail in the next week). So I have the option of MAPSS (which I will consider if I truly hate Rice upon visiting, though I fail to see that happening), Davis (with no guarantee of funding, whooo) and Rice (with funding). I sent an email to George Marcus yesterday, who was one of my letter writers, to keep him posted on what was going on, and ask if he knew anything about MAPSS. He said the following: "Chicago masters is not a bad deal. We get some of our best grad students from this Program." So for those who are shunning MAPSS, keep this in mind.
  12. Yeah, I got rejected from Chicago, but got accepted to this as well. Applied to six places, got rejected by two (three if you count Chicago), and waiting to hear back from Michigan (I know this is most likely a rejection). I am waiting to hear back formally from Rice, which was my top choice (because of the people there I wanted to work with); according to a person of interest, I am the first on their waiting list, and am supposed to hear from them as soon as a spot opens-so here is hoping. I got accepted to Davis, which was my backup, but I've yet to hear funding from them. So basically, I'm here praying about Rice, waiting to hear about funding from Davis, and thinking about the MAPSS Program. The benefit of MAPSS is the school, and the fact I can work with faculty in the Anthropology department. As a candidate, I'm in a weird boat. My undergraduate GPA was pretty good, but I was all over the map in my intellectual interests, and that probably was reflected in my statement of purpose. I lack a masters degree, so MAPSS could be beneficial in that way. The reason my interests are running wild, is because I was a triple major in History, Classics, and Anthropology... Because of that, I was going to apply to Medieval History programs for the longest time, but decided against it, since I was thinking about future research interests, and methodologies, and honestly Anthropology suits me a lot better. My letters of recommendation were not weak, but I cold get a new letter of recommendation from a professor at Chicago should I do MAPSS, and I could strengthen my application for next year, when I would reapply for doctoral programs, this time changing a few schools around. Basically everything is contingent upon funding from Davis, and from hearing back (hopefully good news) from Rice.
  13. Sorry, no, I mean it is an acceptance letter. Davis was my backup. I got accepted. Lol, this is what I get for typing half asleep. The letter mentions *nothing* about financial aid. I sent an email asking about it and a few other questions.
  14. Well, that email I got telling me to check the website after 8 AM on this date is an acceptance letter. Well, on the brightside, I was accepted to my backup.
  15. I just got an email from Davis that said they would have notification about my application on the third of March on their website after 8 AM PST.
  16. Sorry, I am just so ebullient, that... I don't know what I was typing. As far as I understood it, they have made their offers. By alternate, I think that they mean waitlist. As in, as soon as someone turns them down, they will proceed down the short list / list of alternates / wait list and make offers to those people. As he said: "as soon we find ourselves with an open slot, I'll be in touch." I contacted Joanne Carpenter, but she actually forwarded my email to my potential adviser, who contacted me himself. Post scriptum: Good luck to you as well.
  17. So first time posting here. A friend told me about this site, because he and I were both anxious about our graduate school application results. Anyways, got rejected from Berkeley. Yay! And I've yet to hear back from Chicago and Michigan. However, I sent a message to Rice, which is my top choice, asking about the admissions offers that had gone out so far (George Marcus had turned me onto Rice). Rice has currently begun making admissions offers, and I'm currently their first alternate. Joyous celebration! So anyone else interested in Rice, do not fret.
