  1. I'm also looking at 2017. I'm wondering - I'm working on a nonfiction book now, but I want to write fiction afterwards. I'd like to apply to a fiction program but I'm not sure if I could pull that off if I'm working on CNF.
  2. I used to commute 35 minutes to school while working full time, but because I was P/T in college, it was really easy. My concern is that if I get a TA and I'm full time, I'd have to be on campus very often, maybe even once in the morning and once late at night, etc, and it would make a commute really time consuming. I do love reading on my way. I wouldn't get to it otherwise. My question specifically is: how much time, on average, do TA spend on location?
  3. Thank you for that! Very helpful. I live an hour from NYU and I'm trying to figure out if I should even try to apply.
  4. I am looking into grad schools with TA/fellowships. I live in the NY region and I'm wondering which schools I can apply to without needing to consider relocation. How much travel to school is reasonable if it isn't a low residency program? An hour, more...? Thanks!
  5. So I am looking at applying to creative writing MFAs in 2017 and I'm finding the threads here fascinating and so very helpful. Commentors keep referring to "draft" as a non-generic noun, some sort of location. Very mysterious. Is it a forum and where do I go to lurk? Thanks!
  6. I have half of an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, which I dropped out of because of the cost. I had tried to negotiate my tuition with them, but they have virtually no money (or so it was then, two years ago) for grads, so as a working single mother out of funds, I had no choice but to put the MFA on the back burner. I had no idea there are programs that offer stipends until recently, when I ran across it on an interview with a writer. I would so love to be able to afford to finish my MFA! My question is - it's February! It seems all applications close in December, January. Are there any NY/NJ programs that I could apply to now where the bottom line financially is zero cost, either through stipends, tuition waivers or simply low cost tuition? I'm having a hard time finding it through the university websites as the conditions for scholarships are very unclear and indecisive. Perhaps someone with experience can tell me what is a reasonable expectation? Is there anything I can pursue now or do I have to wait a half year?
