  1. I'm trying to be calm about it all, but I only last a few days (or hours). When I checked the results last week on the timing of letters last year (for IA) the following dates popped up:

    May 4, 2009

    March 20, 2009

    March 31, 2008

    March 25, 2008

    March 21, 2008

So...I'm thinking that next week might be it, but that one entry for May isn't making me happy. It's one thing to be posting in the "April is it!!" topic, but I don't want to be hanging out in "Holy shit May is it!!" topic.angry.gif

  2. Hi all,

I've been following this thread and just decided to get an account because I GOT IN, and I figured I could offer some helpful info.

Program: MA in Poli Sci for Fall 2010

Acceptance format: Hard copy letter in the mail, dated March 15th, with a hand-written note from Robert Macdonald.

FYI I applied before their priority deadline (Jan 19) for which they said if you applied before then you would get your letter mid-March.

No funding offered as far as I can tell.

Also, this link for accepted students says there are receptions on the 25th of March, so as long as you applied before Jan 19th you'll probably know by then: http://www.newschool...e.aspx?id=15954

Good luck all! I hope this was helpful!

Thank you for signing up and passing on the information! It's really helpful!

    Congrats on getting in! biggrin.gif

  3. Sigh. I thought spring break for them was two weeks ago...apparently I need to pay closer attention. Thanks for checking on them (admissions) for us! cool.gif

Two more New School postings in the results, so someone is getting mail from them.

  4. First I thought I had no mail at all yesterday...drove around the block to see if I could find the postman, nope. Later than night when I got home there was a lot of mail, but still nothing. Today? Nothing.

Now the question is: starting next week, can I calm down enough to stop driving home at lunch? dry.gif

  5. I am right there with you on this situation, slowly losing my sanity. I have never had any trouble sleeping before now but lately I am getting 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night and I have been compulsively checking email. I don't drink so it is not an option. Will we ever get through this?

Gee, where is my mama when I need her? :P

laugh.gif love it! I calmed down just before March 10th and then I got hyper again. I'm finally calming down a little bit, but still checking my email when I see that there is one unread message. My productivity sucks...watching tv, reading...I find myself daydreaming about the "what ifs".

Hopefully the wait will be over sooner than later for all of us!

  6. I love your FedEx conversation! laugh.gif I think I'll keep that one in my back pocket as a last resort phone call to make.

Yesterday I calmed down a little (not much) and today I feel a little more calm while playing the waiting game. I think I've just been feeling tired and drained from worrying about it...now I need to get back to worrying about work and the paper I am presenting next week (that isn't finished yetunsure.gif). With that stuff to worry about, maybe I can "chill out" for a few more days.

  7. Thank you, I was surprised and flattered by the acceptances. And thank you for your response! I was thinking that SAIS might be a better fit, but it always feels better to get confirmation from someone else. In my mind, Georgetown is more for diplomats and SAIS is more for people interested in policy and private firms. I know this isn't how the schools describe themselves, but in my mind that's what it seems like. I am definitely more interested in just getting my MA and entering the private sector. I think corporate security abroad could be an interesting field. Plus, I like the fact that SAIS doesn't make students write a Master's thesis. My undergrad thesis was a huge waste of time and I don't want to repeat the process.

My stats are probably pretty similar to everyone else's. Graduated in 2006 from top-5 liberal arts college after studying abroad in Turkey. After graduating, worked abroad doing grass roots political work in Mongolia and Azerbaijan. Worked in several NGOs in DC and just got back from doing a Fulbright in Georgia. My GPA was completely average (3.5) and my GRE scores were not good (700/710/4!) so I think this really illustrates that they are looking more for work experience than straight numbers.

I've met so many SAIS students who seem eager and proud of their program, and I think the location is great. Brookings and the best gay bars in D.C.? Sign me up!

I just want to sneak in really quick to say thank you for posting your stats. I wanted to apply to the same programs you applied to, but since I'm in career change mode I knew my work experience wouldn't count for too much. Congrats on the acceptances, that's just fabulous you have a great selection to choose form!

  8. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate to Georgetown's SSP happened to be last year? Can't find it posted anywhere...

I was able to find some stuff in the results search...one entry for 2009 and two for 2008:

    March 20, 2009

    March 20, 2008

    March 12, 2008

I hope that helps alleviate a little nervousness for you! smile.gif

  9. If you fear bad luck, you could always just ask about the status of decisions in general and whether they've been made/when they'll be made, without giving your name.

I did that Monday...and somehow I turned into a 5 year old hiding behind a parent scared to show my face -via the phone. I called the right University, the right school and spoke with grad admissions, but I didn't ask about my program. I just asked if they were sending letters this month or next month. For some reason I felt like a idiot for calling and didn't want to hang up on the person once they picked up the phone.

When I hung up I just looked at the wall and said "What the hell was that?" Apparently this whole process has really messed up the wiring in my head. tongue.gif

  10. I thought I asked before, but I think I asked out loud rather than typing it (I'm smart). Do most schools have a deadline of April 15th for just PhD programs or MA/MS/PhD? Just curious about the date...I feel like I should know, but somehow I missed the importance.

Besides, I figured everyone wasn't fired up for Tax Day, so it had to be something else laugh.gif

  11. Thanks for the input! From the website (NSSR) I got the impression that it's just about the application components...I'm just grasping at straws. When I see that last year someone from the IA program got a letter in May, I want to scream. It says my application was submitted 2 days before the deadline, but the transcripts were entered 3 days late. So I have a feeling I'll be getting a letter towards the end of the pack.

If all of us end up at NSSR can we have a group hug?

  12. Hi there Psych majors! :)

Yesterday I saw that someone posted in the results they were accepted to The New School...I was just trying to find them on the boards via major...hoping they might be a forum poster as well. A few of us are waiting from various programs at The New School and we're curious about their website and if it changes when an application has been accepted/rejected.

If you know someone that was accepted/rejected, would you be so kind as to ask them to PM me or post in the "Waiting for NSSR" topic (under Waiting I Out)?

Thank you so much!! Good luck to all of you!

  13. What's the deal?

They said the TENTH. It is the ELEVENTH.

    =[

Looks like a few people posted in the results about the MA Philosophy program...did you hear back yet? (A lot of us are waiting on the New School still from various programs dry.gif)

  14. Wow..talk about nightmare. I think your situation takes the cake.

still no word back from my school, but I faxed them my transcript copies yesterday from my dual-enrollment days and the official copies *should* arrive this week.

I think yours is just as insane. You practically need to give a blood sample to get a copy of your transcripts and they send you the wrong ones? I'm fine with the fact that everyone makes mistakes, but damn. There had to be a check and balance missed around there somewhere.

My only regret is not sending my incorrect transcripts with a note saying "The corrected transcripts showing degree completion will not be available for another month. There are no additional classes that will be added, just confirmation of degree completion." I said I was going to do something like that, but I didn't and now I'm worried I applied too late in the mix.

    Just sit and wait huh.gif

  15. This from the Phil dept:

"all applications that were complete on time have been sent letters with a

decision. and most have also received a back-up. email."

I might just die waiting :-(

Ack! I would think you would have received an email then...no? We should start a team from the Grad Cafe to create a better (faster) application review process.
