Canadian Universities MSW. The waiting game 2016 admissions
Mack replied to MSW&MD's topic in Social Workers Forum
So kind of a weird question, Does anyone know what schools really prioritize a GPA? I know experience matters everywhere but are there any schools that are more GPA focused than anything else? -

I'm so happy I could help and I hope you have a wonderful Easter. No news yet. I am hoping maybe something this week but trying to limit how often I check Quest. I'm anxious myself so everytime I see the word "waitlist" I kind of get disappointed all over again -

I didn't convocate until October so almost two months after I started the BSW, I just provided transcripts showing successful completion of those last courses and it was okay. I want to say there were a few people in my boat as well -

I know it seems like such a hard road but this experience is only going to make you an even better social worker. Navigating these huge emotions of powerlessness and anxiety will enhance your empathetic responses in an incredibly meaningful way. If it helps I didn't finish my last credits for my first degree until the August before I started the University of Waterloo, it was totally fine -

There are even some schools of thought that believe a BSW is more employable because BSW positions are typically more entry level and employers may be reluctant to hire someone with an MSW because they wouldn't stay long. Also with a BSW, a MSW is only 1 year so you're not actually losing any time. Hope this was helpful! -

Let me know what she says. Waitlists are really tricky because its so hard to make any other plans -

It keeps quoting the wrong message! I'm fascinated by the idea of writing to admissions, I would love to hear what everyone else says about it. My first instinct would be that if the waiting list is ranked it may not make a difference however I don't know if anything would preclude them from adjusting the ranking.... -

I can't speak to that because I didn't have the option for a January start. Did they start that this year? -

Hi Calendar Girl From one waitlistee to another, hugs! Secondly lots of people in my current cohort came from the waitlist. If you're so inclined speak to the faculty regarding the pt option which you can do in only five terms. My friend was waitlisted last year and went that route and she's very happy! -

Friday around 11am. From what I've seen Friday was waitlist, the weekend was denials and Monday/Tuesday seemed to be the admits. My fingers are crossed for you. Is Waterloo your first choice? It was the only place I applied to -

I was waitlisted Still checked quest a few times to see if they changed their minds but no such luck. My fingers are crossed still but trying to be realistic. -

Thank you CalenderGirl, I'm rooting for you too. And yes, I can completely relate to the feeling of not being "good enough". I'd reckon that the emotional journey of a graduate applicant might make some interesting social work research one day! The faculty has been quite good and I definitely feel as though I have learned a lot -

And when you decline, if you could just demand that I take your spot that'd be fantastic -

I think you sound like a great candidate. Right now the cohort is fairly mixed I think? Some with incredibly high GPA's and some less so with great experience. I think though from what you're describing you'd have a great shot, I mean 79% is nothing to sneeze at. There is 60 of us and I know that last year my friend was waitlisted but was able to jump into PT which is only taking her 5 terms -

I'm doing that right now. If it helps, last year waitlist was posted on March 16th and acceptances were the 17th. I think you'll like the program a lot -

I have also been waitlisted at Waterloo. I called and they couldn't tell me where I sat. They also said that some years they end up taking everyone on the waitlist and others they take very few. Just depends on the circumstances on those who were admitted. She said they will post the first round of wait-list offers in April. I was feeling pretty disappointed as I only applied there as well. -

My heart is not built for this kind of excitement! I only applied to FT Waterloo so my fingers and toes are crossed
