  1. Anyone here currently in University of Chicago's MAPH program/ can weigh in on whether it is worth a shot? I have been rejected by all but one of the PhD programs I applied for (I am still waiting to hear from Berkeley, but I am expecting to hear the worst). I would eventually like to enter a PhD program and I am wondering if going the MAPH route would be an advantageous move, especially considering that I will not be receiving funding for the MAPH program. My concentration is in modern/contemporary with emphasis on critical theory and performance. I do not have any student loans from undergrad, but I will independently finance my graduate studies. Any insight would be very greatly appreciated!
  2. I recently emailed the Graduate Affairs Officer to give notice about my address change and inquire about when decisions will go out. She replied this morning and said "decisions should be finalized in 2-3 weeks."
  3. Waiting for: Chicago, Berkeley, Harvard Rejected: Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, USC It's looking pretty dismal, but I just want to know for sure so I can move on.
  4. Dear rogers100, Thank you very much for responding for my post. Your response helps me gain a better idea of where I stand and "the par for the course" when it comes to graduate admissions at the Ivies et al. While I hope to hear good news soon, your suggestions and advice are very valuable to me and I will surely heed them in preparation for the next application season. Vielen dank fur ihre hilfe!
  5. Hi everyone, I am feeling pretty down after being slaughtered by Stanford, Yale, and Princeton the past few days. I am a first-time applicant applying for PhD programs (Modern/theory w/emphasis on performance and technology) right out of undergrad (although I've been out of school and working for about a year and a half now). I am still waiting on Chicago, Columbia, Harvard, USC, and Berkeley, but I am having difficulty remaining optimistic about my prospects for the remaining programs. My undergraduate GPA was 3.8/3.9 (art history major), in the honors program, wrote honors thesis, presented two papers in grad/undergrad symposiums, 3 years German, and 710 V 530 Q and 5.5 writing. I realize that the vast majority of applicants have solid, solid, solid undergraduate/graduate portfolios and I seek advice from those of you who have been accepted and or have more insight into the graduate application process. I am trying to prepare for the worst and learn how to build a strong application...the second time around. Also, congratulations to those who have received offers :-)
  6. I hear you georgica2. About half the schools I applied to have contacted applicants with admission decisions and I have yet to know my doom. As a northern California resident, I'm less than an hour away from Stanford and I am pining to receive a decision letter (be it good or bad) in the mail. I also recently moved and I'm guessing that the mail forwarding service may be a factor for the delay. Le sigh! Also: Greetings, fellow applicants! I've been hanging around this message board and following the results (in OCD fashion) since the beginning of this month. I am one of the many wannabe modernists. Though I am growing less and less optimistic with each day that I come home to an empty mailbox (and empty email inbox), I am glad to know that I am not the only one experiencing the somatic effects of the waiting period. Good luck, everyone! And congratulations to those who have been accepted!
