Hey all! I just came from the 2016 go-around--I got into three of the four schools I applied to, but they were universities with too high of price tags. (Even with the funding! Sheesh!) Thus, I've made the decision to wait another year in order to bulk up my portfolio and--wait for it--actually research the programs I apply to! (Not gonna just go for NY programs with flashy names. ) In doing this, I wanted to take some initiative on workshopping my poetry portfolio. Because I'm graduating with my BA this year, I won't get to be in any workshops next year, which is unfortunate. I wanted to know if anyone wanted to start a mock-Iowa-pre-2017-application-season workshop with me? I know that many of us are coming from different genres, but I'd still love to recieve comments and to comment (if you so desire) on another's work! Also, does anyone have any recommendations on how to bulk up an application? Since I won't be a contender in my university's competitions and journals, I really want to start submitting to outside journals, but I know that, at this point, submitting to Poetry Mag or the Boston Review would be a wash. Does anyone know of some lower profile journals or reviews good for submitting/checking out?

Congrats to everyone who got into Columbia! Got a phone call yesterday and had to play phone tag with the department Chair. How is the funding situation for everyone? I was offered half-tuition and some other funding options, which was really an honor, but I'm still terrified of the funding issue... the funding issue.. . . .

First, congratulations and best wishes to everyone! Incessant lurker and first-time MFA applicant here, and let me tell you--my nerves are driving me up a wall. As if the nail biting and the nausea and the insomnia weren't enough, I'm going to fuel the neurosis even more so in the hopes of maybe getting some feedback? I have my heart pretty hung up on NYC. I got an acceptance letter from Sarah Lawrence College, but I was fingercrossing so hard for NYU or Columbia U. No word from either yet, but I saw that NYU sent out acceptance letters this week. Be still my beating heart, but is NYU a closed case now? Do the lot of us have to float around in chat forums until we're jackhammered with rejection letters that are already set in stone? When does NYU notify applicants if they're waitlisted?
