  1. Awh man, I feel like an idiot now. Congrats on Columbia to you and @holycat (I think I somehow missed this update until today!). Funding or not, an acceptance at Columbia is a badge of honor!
  2. I suppose you're right, @FalloutCoversEverything (btw, I recently got Fallout 4 and I can't stop playing). I really do want to go, but my gut is telling me to wait. I have to figure out if it's just nerves or something more legitimate, I guess. I'll see how I feel after I visit the campus.
  3. ^ I'm torn because I love the program I got accepted to, but I can't shake the feeling that I was horribly stupid about applying to schools this round. I applied to schools based on status (and funding), and never once thought about whether or not my style of writing would mesh with the program's aesthetic. I've learned a lot through talking to people on Draft, reading MFA blogs, and stalking school websites (which I did whenever I saw a program I wasn't familiar with pop up on the results page). I feel like I have a better idea of the type of school that might be interested in me. The program I was accepted to has quite a bit in common with the one I was wait listed at, so I have an idea of what "type" I should look into next year. I also know to actually talk with programs I'm interested in prior to applying to them. It was dumb of me to assume that information listed on a blog from 5 years ago was still valid, so I won't make that mistake again (hello, funding cuts and reduced program sizes). On that note, I'm also going to read any stories/books published by faculty members before applying. I realized how important this is after reading some of the publications of the school I was accepted to (after getting accepted). Anyway, these are all just thoughts. I still might go to the one I was accepted to this year. I honestly don't know yet.
  4. I've been obsessing over the same thing actually... maybe this would be a good question to ask over on Draft.
  5. Thanks for that. A waitlist is definitely better than a rejection, so I'm very grateful for it. It's just kind of terrifying how close yet far I am from one of my top choices. I'll email both programs if need be. Very solid advice there, as usual.
  6. What happens if you're sitting on a waitlist and an acceptance, but you're much more enthusiastic about the waitlist than the acceptance? Do you wait it out and hope to god you get in? What if people wait until 4/15 to notify? Is it possible that I could get my acceptance after the deadline? What should I do?! *loses mind*
  7. I'll email them and ask-- are you in fiction? Edit: I have your answer. Since they don't have the information published anywhere, I'm just going to DM you their exact response.
  8. Apparently a U of O fiction acceptance has gone out now. They're one of my very last hopes, so I'm really crossing my fingers for a spot on that waitlist. Other than that, I'm still waiting on ASU and McNeese. No good news yet. I'm really not feeling confident about my abilities as a writer right now. Edit: I'm now realizing that I could've used all that application $$ on a new laptop (mine is hanging on by a thread). Damn. Can I at least claim a few of these University donations on my tax return?
  9. Eh. It's not the end of the world, I guess. The family I did have in TX just relocated bc of a job transfer so the news isn't as devastating as it would've been otherwise. Are you vegan?!
  10. Update: Didn't get in. Excuse me while I go sob into a pint of Ben and Jerry's.
  11. Quoting myself to update: Add me to the list of people who were tricked by a ridiculous mistake. I just found out I didn't get in.
  12. WOOOOO!!!! Congratulations!!
  13. Thank you for that. I really don't want to let myself get false hope over this, so a reality check was definitely in order.
  14. Hey everyone! I need your input about something: A program I applied to but haven't heard back from yet just sent me an email confirming the date and time of my Fall 2016 registration appointment. As in when I can start registering for classes. Should I take this as a good sign? The program hasn't notified anyone yet, so I don't know what to think. Edit: I should add that my "academic requirements report" detailing the specific classes I would need to take before graduating was also opened on the day that the email was sent, and I am now able to do academic planning, search for classes, use the shopping cart, etc through the student center.
  15. Should I... do something? I'm sure this would've been brought up by now if everyone got the email. I guess it's still possible that they sent it out as a mistake? I've heard some horror stories about people getting promising emails (or even accidental acceptances) one day and then a rejection notice the next. Thank you for crossing your fingers for me though!!!!
