    Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find a place in Frankfurt am Main and got stuck. I've sent a bunch of messages, but received no reply yet. Where and how do you look for apartments there? Please share your experience!

It's pretty difficult. I tried wg-gesucht, but, as i'm sure you'll notice, they all typically require a besichtigung, which isn't all that easy, considering I'm still in the US.

I eventually found out that the studentenwerk at Stuttgart guarantees a room for one year for DAAD scholarship holders. So I'm doing that, which buys me enough time to find private housing for the second year.

This is done through Stuttgart's International Office, so I would try contacting the international office and see if they can help.

    Hello there,

So....I've just found out that I was awarded a DAAD scholarship.

My only concern now is that after I have summited my documents for the scholarship where I wrote the first 3 universities where I would like to go, I've found out others that would also meet my preferences and I would like to apply to them also. :(((

In case someone might  know, my question now is that would the scholarship be awarded only if I'll get admitted to one of those 3 universities I have written in the application ? Or they normally accept any german university to whom I might get admitted?

    Thanks

The award papers I received specifically said that the scholarship would only be valid at the one university to which I applied.
Based on that, it seems it's unlikely that switching the universities is generally allowed.

I've already switched my program, but it's still within the same university, so that's definitely allowed.

Yes, I got this message 5 minutes after too, but nothing else since.

I wouldn't worry about it. There's nothing to do with the insurance documents anyway. Nothing to sign, nothing to submit, etc, etc. Given their inconsistency in timing, just give it some time.
And no, I did not sign anything on the declaration of acceptance. I can't even find a place on it that asks for a signature.

I didn't sign my declaration of acceptance but I still got an automated message saying that it had been received.

Does anyone know if we need to enroll ourselves at our particular institution or does DAAD do that for us?

Pretty sure you have to do everything yourself after getting the scholarship. I get the feeling DAAD takes a very hands-off approach at this point. They make it exceedingly clear that they will not find you housing, so I don't think there's any assistance in enrollment.

    Hi again!

Congrats to everyone. I got the research grant to get my MA (I'm from the US) and I'm kind of shocked at how little other info I have been provided. I got the letter of acceptance, and uploaded that to the portal. Then, I got the insurance information. Now I haven't heard anything in a while. Am I missing something? I feel like I should be doing something else? If anyone else is clear on next steps, let me know!

Page 12 of the "Ihr Daad Stipendium" document has a list of actions to be completed. But I'm in the same boat as you. I think we're supposed to notify daad of when we'll be arriving. (middle/end of September for me). But since I haven't bought my ticket yet, there's not much to do, I think.

How Long it takes to get the insurance documents? @Gibery

    im still waiting for 'em.

    good luck to everyone waiting!

I submitted my Declaration of Acceptance on Friday and the insurance information arrived on Tuesday. So 2 business days for me.

Has anyone else had any problems uploading the declaration of acceptance? I'll choose the file and input a name for the file. Then I'll hit the "send documents" button, but I keep getting a message that " no documents were uploaded". Any advice? Thanks!

lol. that thing has confusing wording.

Choose the file and put in a name for it. I just did Declaration of Acceptance.
Then click "add files" or whatever. This adds the specified file to the list of files you want to send.
    Then click send documents.

There'll be a notification sent to your e-mail from DAAD. Then, you'll find all the documents there including declaration of acceptance. This's what happened to my case. I think you should wait a bit longer :D

By the way, anyone know whether we have to sign anything in the declaration of acceptance or not? I don't see any space for signature and date, so, I'm a bit confused. Thank you very much in advance.

I just saved and submitted that pdf back to them. I think they just want you to perform some kind of action that shows that you've received and read the scholarship information.

Wait what is "just saw"? Like today in the morning or sooner? Maybe it's done in rounds?

Pretty sure it's done veeeeeery inconsistently. Remember, two other people had their study scholarships switch to funding about a week before mine did. I thought I'd been rejected. If they run the rest of their selection processes with the same consistency, I wouldn't assume you're out until it's over.

Congratulations - your waiting is over and it ended successfully :) But no official note via portal?

Received an email notifying me of new mail in the portal. Portal has a bunch of documents with instructions on acceptance.

    Congradulations!

I have to wait for blank then :)

P.S. Have you already been admitted to the university? I'm asking this because many university deadlines end in April, some even in June.

I applied for a program for WS 2015 and I applied for two other programs SS 2016 as tests to see if I would get accepted. Was accepted to all, so it's only a matter of reapplying and reacceptance (one already came through).

Meanwhile, housing is a whole other issue... :/

    Congratulations, s3v! :)

Thanks! It really looks like selection made > blank > funding is the sequence to look for.

Also, unlike herogirl i wasnt contacted about a language course. Which is fine as I don't need it. But it seems it's definitely not everyone.

My subject group is Engineering. And yours? :)

It might be, but I think we'll never find out...

Engineering as well. Wouldn't surprise me if that's what's going on.
Don't know what the other two had as their subjects.

  12. 2 hours ago, eigthy said:

    Any news today? :)

    Still blank.

    What's your Subject group?
I wonder if they grouped notification by subject group, and maybe the other two who already got it were in different subjects.

I had same question because I was recommended different schools during the interview so I reconsidered my choices. And I asked about it through DAAD-portal and got answer like this:
"New programs, which do not defer from the subject initially chosen can also be approved after receiving the scholarship. For approval, you will be asked to upload an updated version of the form: "Profile of the chosen study programs" and the program descriptions of the new study programs, like you did with the initial submission during the application procedure. "

    So no worries :)

Let's hope that tomorrow we hear some good news :)

Study Scholarship, DAAD LV, Status: Selection made

Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
I specified three when applying, but found the native German version of the international first choice I applied for, and was hoping to switch to that one.

fingers crossed!!! Today could be THE DAY! good luck =)

GOOD LUCK! I HOPE IT IS AN ACCEPTANCE!!!!

Is it weird that people are finding out at all different times?

Thanks. The fairly large delta in when the others found out and when I'm finding out (maybe??), indicates to me that this probably won't be good news.
Based on their processing rate, I also don't expect the application status to change until monday or tuesday at the earliest.

Also, when they confirmed my application, they said results should come at the end of march or beginning of april from Bonn. The scholarship info page at daad says results should be in middle of april. classic daad amiryt.

Since SNP3 applied for the study scholarship, I'd imagine that those of us waiting on language scholarships will not be hearing today. Just a guess, but it seems like these come in waves.

Summer Language Grant, DAAD NY, portal status: 'selection made'

Same scholarship as Snp3, still at selection made. Looks like I got left behind.

I have got the letter a week after the rejection:

Dear Mr. XXXXX, your application has been thoroughly reviewed by the DAAD’s Selection Committee on which professors work in an honorary capacity. It has assessed your application documents and gained an impression on the basis of a personal interview. We regret to inform you that the committee decided not to award you a scholarship. The Selection Committee had to decide between 272 applications and was able to award 23 scholarships. The number of qualified applications usually exceeds the number of available scholarships. Negative decisions do not always mean the committee considers the applicant to be unsuitable for the scholarship, but initially only that other applicants have been rated more highly in the given competitive situation. It is the DAAD’s policy not to give detailed information on the reasons that led to this decision. Please be assured that the selection committee members gave full and due consideration to all relevant aspects contained in your application and in those submitted by other candidates. The committee gives high priority to the applicant’s academic qualifications (including the requisite language skills) and to the quality, preparation and feasibility of the study or research proposal. We hope that this disappointing decision will not discourage you from looking for other ways to carry out your project. Yours sincerely, Kai Franke Head of Section

    23/272 = 8.4% chance of getting it. That's miserable.

    Which scholarship was this?

I hope everyone had a good Easter weekend!

Does anyone know if there's a chance that we'll hear results tomorrow, or is Easter Monday also a holiday in Germany?

If results are being determined in Germany, which I believe they are, you won't hear from them tomorrow. Monday is a holiday.

Hi s3v. Yesterday you said your status was still Application Submitted. When did your status change to Selection made?

Ah I probably misspoke. It's been at selection made for 10 days or so now.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know my portal status has been changed from "selection made" to being blank. Has anyone else seen or heard of this happen?

Study Scholarship, DAAD NY, portal status: blank

Same scholarship but I'm still at selection made.

I edited to clarify (sorry I'm on mobile). They always update their Facebook when they close so I'll check there.

Which fb page would be looking at?
They've got one for each country and then some more. :|
