Hearing that makes me slightly less freaked out. I'm so afraid that schools will start to contact me and I won't get the letter/email/phone call. I applied to the Graduate Center (CUNY), McGill, Yale, and UMich. I'm hoping any day now.
I'm starting to freak out because I have yet to hear from any of the schools I applied to....if you don't mind me asking, where did you apply (and hear back from)?
Growing up about 20 minutes from Hofstra....It's totally not a college town, it's just in the middle of the middle-island burbs. (Ever hear of Levittown? It's like 10-15 minutes away.) Parts of Hempstead are a bit sketchy, but that's not the area by the school. Living expenses aren't as bad as they'd be in the city....but it's not super cheap either....If you're bringing a car you could always look into living in Long Beach (about 25-30 minute drive on the streets I think) where there's some reasonable apartments and lots of younger people (single school teachers and professionals...) There's other areas around like that too...
I see there's a lot of musicologists here...any theory people by any chance? I'm in an MA program currently and applying for PhD programs in the fall...
(Sorry the post is short and maybe a bit off topic, I'm new-ish)
