  1. I think you have to also factor in what type of career you want to have. I'm applying to doctoral programs in public health, but I spent a lot of time considering doing an MPH first. I think there are some schools that are "lower-tier," but are respected locally and have lots of local connections, so if your intention was to stay in the area, you would probably do perfectly well with that. On the other hand, if you go to a name brand school, there is probably a vast career network and it will be known anywhere.
  2. Hey guys, I had applied to the Doctor of Science in the SHDH Department at Harvard, and I just (about an hour ago) received an email that I was accepted to the M.S. program. So I guess they are sending some responses. I'm a little disappointed but I'm glad that they accepted me to the M.S. rather than just rejecting me (I only have a B.A.). I've been accepted to a Ph.D. program with very generous funding at University of Minnesota, but I'm really on the edge of my seat about Johns Hopkins (Health, Behavior and Society), which is far and away my first choice. I spoke to the academic coordinator on the phone about a week and a half ago, and she said that decisions would be out by the end of this week (i.e. yesterday), but I haven't heard anything. Has anyone else? Also waiting to hear from UW and Columbia (sociomedical sciences).
