  1. Thanks for the info Phishyman. Just another week or two. I consider this one to be my best fit so my nerves are set to full jangle.
  2. Anyone received any info yet?
  3. Sounds similar to Stanford's condescending rejection email. They wrote, "I sincerely hope that you secure admission to another program and that you will find a way to continue your interest in history." [sarcasm] Yes Stanford, I will somehow try to move on. [/sarcasm]
  4. JMH, I've applied, and am still waiting to hear from NYU, WashU, Boston College, and Stanford. It's quite a nail-biting experience, really. I've been checking the websites obsessively (even though I swore that I wouldn't). What aspect of post-1945 Britain interests you? I'm slightly earlier (mid 19th to mid 20th). I'm interested in the rise in nationalism under the liberal state and the formation of external legitimacy through prison resistance within the empire.
  5. @JMH: I did my undergrad at Cal in modern British history. Vernon was my research advisor. Good luck! It's a great department. If I might ask, do you already have an M.A.?
  6. @apsuwa: I have a similar situation... I asked a former professor for a LOR back in early October. She had actually agreed to be a recommender for me in 2009 and told me to keep up with reminding her about it in weekly emails. I followed her instructions, occasionally making my way to the university (I graduated Dec. '09) to personally deliver additional information/forms (in order to maintain personal contact). The first deadline was Dec. 7. It came and went, as did Dec. 12, Dec. 31, January 2 and 4. As of this date no recommendations have been sent. I just sent her an email stating that, if she would like, I could write a recommendation for her which she could then alter as she saw fit. I know that the committees will begin meeting within the next 1-2 weeks. I don't know what more I can do. I'm a bit disappointed with the situation. My other recommenders had their letters in by early December.
  7. I'm really not liking Boston College's hybrid application process. There's an online component where you have to calculate the cum/major GPA, self-report GRE scores, give a course abstract and do everything a standard online application requires... except the SOP, Writing Sample, Transcripts, and LORs all have to be mailed. In addition, the online component has to be completed in order to get the ID number which has to be included on the LOR form that is then sent to your professors to work with. The deadline isn't until 2 Jan. but I find myself working on it before my apps which are due on 7 and 12 Dec. to make sure the letters are mailed in on time. A bit frustrating, but it is what it is. Just needed to vent.
